When should i buy the expansions

Post » Thu May 30, 2013 7:03 am

Hello,

I'm totally new to The elder scrolls so have been playing skyrim now.

But i was wondering, when the right time is to add the expansions.

Is it fun to do that right away, or when i'm done leveling till the cap.

In what way and when should i add them ?

Don't try to aim for the cap.

Do yourself a favor and have fun. I personally go to every town/city before I do the factions that benefit my character before I install the DLC. You'll get a feel of how everything is. The DLC's are challenging. You will want to be ready.

In the future, try to have multiple questions saved up before you post here.

The DLCs can be active, but you can ignore them, for the most part. So, get them at any time. Dawngaurd will have an affect on the game world at level 10, and following that MQ exclusively can mitigate those issues. Some people leave that DLC unchecked until they are ready to play it for that reason.

That "affect on the game world" is far to important to be left so vague. To the OP.. there will be constant vampire attacks on cities until the main Dawnguard quest is complete so be warned. Unless you want cities turned into ghost towns stay away from cities during the quest line.

Get them whenever you see fit.

Considering this topic was posted in the General Section, then my answer was suitable for the section of the forums we were in.

Now, that you have posted a spoiler, I will move this the Spoilers section........

I have a level 75 guy who has yet to do any DLC, or even the civil war!

He has pretty well done everything else though (except the Dark Brotherhood).

There's a solid ~600 hours to be spent in the default, vanilla game.

Anyway, not wishing to do either of those things - it's time for DLC!

I have to now become a vampire, I s'pose... since I have already played through for the Dawnguard.

I pvssyd with a guy who is on Solstheim @ level 14, LoL, heheh...

He was having terrible difficulties.

I don't recommend that; instead (like the Fallouts etc.) I introduce the DLCs one by one, in the order they were released.

And only once everything else is fait accompli !

Exaggeration much? I'm currently playing level 35 mage and not once have I been attacked by vampires in town. Twice on the road by those that attack the vigilants and scream: "YOU THERE TRAVELER!!!". One thing though is that the guards will only say the "Heard they're reforming the Dawnguard" line 90% of the time.

It's not you who gets attacked - it's the town.
Ie. Riften, if you fast-travel there could be a battle in the town circle.
By the time you get there it's done and everyone dead!
(It's the vampire's dogs; they go through NPCs like butter. Chomp!)
I once lost Aerin, Grelka, Balimund, and Bersi the Pawned Prawn guy.
Now I will fast-travel only to Mistvail Keep (which helps a lot).
But you must be very aware...
