2 late ideas

Post » Sat Apr 10, 2010 7:10 pm

I remember having that underbar idea, then I was looking at the wall hop/tic-tac, and then I remembered this important parkour move called a lache (or however you spell it). It's basically a swing from a crossbar, to help you gain grounds.
I know about that they need to have a gun on their hands, and constant fire and all that. But if they have an option in the gameplay that allows the player to holster their gun then that would fix it. Benefits in holstering their gun could be that the character moves/runs faster and enabled to do more movements.
Just ideas, I know it's too late.

Ive seen the holstering idea in many games, and it usually works well, offering the ability to rush faster with a bit of an added risk. But, like you said, they really wanted players to be able to fire their gun at any time, with no restrictions.

But if it's something the player opts into wouldn't that be a different story? Or would we have people accidentally holster their weapon and then complain about it when they get killed?

If there was an option to holster your weapon, there should also be an abiltiy which allows you to rapidly whip out your secondary. So people couldn't complain, because this ability would allow them to react in time.

Makes sense. What do you think the controller layout will be for brink? And how would something like that be laid out on a 360 pad? What would you hit to holster logically and what would be a logical secondary draw?`

The controller-layout can be found in the compendium.

Also it has been posted in the XBox vs PS thread:
Controller Layout for 360

Left Bumper = SMART... this is also for sprinting... 1 in the same
Left Trigger = Aim (standard)
Right trigger = Shoot (standard)
Right Bumper = Grenade (like cod)

Then that leaves jump, crouch, reload, action, melee, weapon swap.

Going again off 360 layout (which is something like this)
.Y
X-B
.A

Y = weapon swap
B = Crouch
A = Jump
X = reload AND interact

Melee goes to click right stick down

Holding Y could make you holster your weapon.

Is there any other confirmed configuration of buttons (ie. Make Jump Left Bumper? Or making 'B' melee?) If so, i would greatly appreciate a link, or a responce, because I am not a fan of having the SMART button as the left bumper for some reason. Dont ask why lol, i just dont :confused:

There isn't, I believe. This config is just the one people could use on the Expo-demos.

I don't understand making B crouch when you can just click the left stick like every xbox game ever. I wonder if you'll be able to set your own. Or if there will just be 4 or 5 preset layouts.

Pressing in the left-stick makes you supply yourself with ammo or a health-buff.

How do you supply ammo to others?

You use the D-pad. Up is the objective wheel, down, left, and right are for abilities.

I was never a fan of penalizing player becuase they choose to sprint. BC2 does this, by making players unable to shoot and aim while sprinting and also by having a delay when your weapon pos up, coming out of a sprint - Holsetering would also do this.

I like being able to do everything, regardless if I'm sprinting or not, like in RTCW and ET. At the very least, you could make these options purchasable abilites. I actually think reloading while sprinting is such an ability.

Or you could just press X if you're playing on the 360.

It'd be cool if they had some kind of hand to hand system

I think you're able to shoot while sprint (Since SMART is basically sprinting) and there has been an ability confirmed somewhere that you can reload while sprinting if you buy it as an ability.

There is a reason for that, though.
If you can shoot while sprinting, there is no real need to walk/jog anymore. It's a balancing-issue. Especially in Battlefield, because of it's wide areas.

If all you know is "modern shooters" like Battlefield and MW2, perhaps your logic would make sense, but Brink isn't like Battlefield, with vast open area with vehicle support and gun mechanincs that favor realism over un-realism/fun and it isn't like MW2, where camping is promoted throught the implementation of kill-streaks and poor weapon balance (OSK in the foot, lol). In ET, sprinting was balanced with a sprint meter, so you couldn't do it all the time. Also, sprinting tends to lessen weapon accuracy or just makes it harder to keep your aim on targets in general, still making walking a viable choice. Brink also has footsteps, so sneaking up on players or trying to be stealthy makes walking viable as well. Other than Battlefield (which has such a strong, useless penalty against sprinting and shooting) I never usually walk in games anyway. It's either full sprint or crouching.

My point is, Brink is not Battlefield (or similar games) it seem to have more of an "oldschool PC shooter merged with modern shooter mechanincs," feel and the "moderen mechanincs" seem to only be included to draw the attention of newer games (and console players, who have not expereinced the perfection of SD-style team objective shooters.) Sprinting while shooting has been done before, numerous times, with complete balance intact. It is also a feature many SD fans are requesting to be included.

Yes, seems like SD plans on you sprinting everywhere, since the sprint button is the smart button, and most people will be holding it down whenever they go anywhere. Its not unbalanced when everyone can do it.
