I'm inside the vault and just called Elijah down through the cooperation option. No skill checks.

When he comes to the forcefield, he accuses me of stealing and activates the turrets. I reprogrammed them to kill him, he died, but the blue force barriers did not open.

I reloaded, destroyed the turrets, killed him, and the forcefields once again did not open.

I tried just standing in front of the barrier facing Elijah, and after he put the turrets against me, he simply walked through the force barriers and attacked me.

Is this a glitch? Isn't he supposed to open the forcefields after he dies? How am I supposed to escape the Vault before the collar blows off if the fields do not disappear?

For me they have never disappeared, i've always had to return the way i came. And since i sometimes sneak out of the vault without killing him, that door gets no force field at all.

Yeah, I found out through another fellow player that they never really disappear. The only "real" way out is backtracking. There is the exploit (now I know it is really an exploit) to sneak through with all the gold bars, and as I have done this part only once before using this very same exploit, somehow I thought the forcefields should open after killing Elijah. My mistake.
