Questions re: Legendary skills

Hey folks,

My Smithing skill is currently at around 111. I was thinking of setting it as Legendary, but based on my understanding of how legendary works, wouldn't I be undoing all my progress in Smithing? I have all the perks activated, so I'd lose the ability to craft and upgrade all the armours (especially Dragonbone & Scale).

Other than to give oneself more options for character creation, in the sense of undoing/resetting skills, I cannot understand what the benefits of making a skill legendary are, if it resets everything.

Can someone explain how it works, and if my perception of it undoing all skills and perks is correct? I doubt I'll use it, if so, since I spent so long builing a skill and its perks, so why would I want to undo all that, unless I wanted to build a much different character.

Most would only reset a skill they don't really use for anything, for example, lockpicking for a mage might not be something they put any perks into at all, but once it gets to 100 they would reset it to get the benefit of Leveling their character even further as lockpicking re-levels. I've never reset a skill that I chose to be essential for a particular character... just my 2 spetims! :tes:

Yes, making your skill "Legendary" means you lose all progress. Congratulations! You can start grinding steel again!

That's what I figured. I didn't make it legendary since I didn't want to lose/reset all progress. Why spend so long building it up, only to reset it all? (Unless of course to experiment with character creation).
