Gained access to the arcane university

I got recomendations from all the mage guilds and can enter the arcane university, how do i make enchanted swords and such and how do i make spells?

What is a good sword? i have ebony two handed, small sword and dagger available. I allready have a dagger of lighting that does 13+20dmg shock, which is pretty ok, and a twohanded sword called sinweaver that does 17+10dmg fire and 10 fatigue on strike, dont think that is as good as the dagger.

In order to make an enchantment you need three things. A filled soul gem (preferably Greater or Grand), enough money and something that can be enchanted like clothing, armor or weapons. To begin you have to enter the Chironasium and pick one of the altars and go from there.

For spells you need to enter the Praxographical Center and pick an altar there.

What is a good enchantment and spell is really up to you to decide. Yes there are general guidelines, but since I think this is the second most interesting thing about Oblivion I′m not going to spoil anything for you. Go ahead and try it out for yourself :)

good number, 15 damage for two seconds. you might want to soul trap. so, soul trap for five seconds, fire damage for two seconds.

Over two seconds could have been good, i made it 25dmg over 1 second, two is better becaurse you dont strike that fast?
Can all items have many enchantments? How does that work?

The reason it′s better to have 25 damage over 2 secs instead of 50/1 is because it′s "cheaper" and therefore you can afford heavier damage with more charges. Any weapon (not clothes or armor) can have multiple effects. The trick is to make something that works, I′ll give you an example.

The sword Chillrend has at the highest level Frost Damage 20pts and Weakness to Frost 35% for 20 secs. That is good because the weakness stack, so in a few strikes the target has over 100% weakness to frost and it keeps on going until time runs out for the first strike. So even though it only has 20pts damage it gets powerful in time. Just remember that weakness needs to come after damage in order to work properly.

Hope that helps :)

Well, it′s not that bad either. It adds 25 damage points to your sword

Some things to think about. Damage over time on a weapon stops when you land the next blow (gets replaced by the new one), so you generally set that to match the rate at which you swing the weapon. I.e. one second for a shortsword, two for a claymore, more for a warhammer. Any weakness you apply benefits the next hit, so the duration of that should be long enough to land another, so typically a second longer than the damage lasts, at least, or possibly double.

The greater the damage per hit, the faster the weapon runs out of charge. The soul you get from each kill needs to be enough to recharge what you just spent from the weapon, so killing mud-crabs with 40 points of fire damage on each blow is going to drain your weapon, even if you capture every soul. When you fight NPC's, you're unlikely to be carrying a lot of empty black soul gems, so you don't want to be relying on the enchantment on the weapon alone. A good weapon balances base damage with magic damage, so that it's still usable when it's drained - and watch out for durability, too. It's really annoying when you have charges left on a broken weapon.

You can only enchant or make spells based on the spells you can cast. That means it's useful to learn all the low-level destruction spells (the on touch version is usually the cheapest) so you apply them to weapons, and things like Soul Trap, which is always a good one to add to a weapon, so you can keep it recharged. There are a few spells you can only get from birth-signs (which can also come from the Runestones associated with them), or as a racial benefit (nothing you can do about that once you've started).

You can only apply one enchantment to a clothing or armor item, but you can use several on a weapon. That makes Sigil Stone enchantment better for defense, and Soul gem at altar better for weapons, as Sigil Stones have higher levels, but offer only one enchantment.

You can make spells with more than one effect, so you can summon a creature and turn invisible in a single cast, for example. The spells you buy only do one thing. Although you've already been given Bouyancy, which combines water breathing with feather, you can't buy any like that. So buy the components (weakest are cheapest) and make your own. You can buy spells you can't yet cast, but you can neither use a spell you can't cast as a component, nor make one that's above your level. Weapon enchantments are only limited on the input side - you must be able to cast a spell to use it as an enchantment, but the weapon can then inflict more than you could cast as a spell.

I think you have to have the spell in order to enchant with it, yes

You can only enchant items with spells that you have already learned. You can create new spells from the base effects of the spells you already know. So if you know a flare spell, which does something like 6 damage, you can turn around and make a higher damage spell, consisting of fire, which you already know. Taking that flare spell as previous knowledge, you can go to the altar and create a fire spell of say, 20 damage. Because you already know the fire effect.... make sense?
