The GM Advice Thread.

Hello all! I am by no means the best or most experienced writer on this forum, but I thought it would be a good idea to write up a quick little thread that will hopefully prove to be informative for both old and new members alike. The purpose of this thread is to discuss the importance of the GM, as well as to offer advice for anyone attempting to take up the mantle.

First off is my little definition of the ideal GM(please note this is purely my opinion, and I'm sure many will disagree). A GM should have the RP planned out thoroughly(assuming it is story driven) or generally(for player driven RP's such as Valton). Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the GM should puppet the other writers, just that they should know what they're getting into before starting. Secondly, a GM should pay attention to the writers' input and be open to suggestions and criticism. Lastly(and some would argue most importantly) A GM should stay with their thread from conception to death. As long as players are interested, they shouldn't give up on the Roleplay.

Well anyways, as you could undoubtedly tell, that's just a basic outline and I'm excited to hear the advice that you all have to give.

This thread will be a big help for a new GM like myself. Thanks! :)

I kind of want to start my own RP at some point in the future, and I have a pretty good idea of what that will be about, but I'm not good at planning out the specifics to a story before writing about it. Most everything I write is fully impromptu. :P Any suggestions on the best course of action to get out of this mindset for the RP (I still like the improvisation, I just don't want it around for planning the RP's storyline)?
