I have finished the quest were Brynjolf wanted me to plant the ring on the guy, but that was a long time ago and I don't remember what I did after I planted the ring. But now I want to join the Thieves Guild and I know how to. I talk to Brynjolf and all he says is "Hmm", so I went down to the Ragged Flagon and they tell me to talk to Brynjolf but I cant. I checked my all my quests and none of them have to do with Brynjolf or the Thieves Guild. I really want to join the Thieves Guild but I cant, and everytime I look on google for this bug a similar one appears but it is not the correct one. Please help me because I really want to join.

Are you in the Ragged Flagon? They are supposed to comment on you. Try reloading a previous save.

When I talk to them they usually say random things but when I talk to Dirge he tells me to talk to Brynjolf, but I cant because whenever I talk to Brynjolf he says "hmm", "hmm". And I cant reload a prev. save because when I did the first quest it was atleast 9 months ago.

I guess I should have been more specific.

Leave the Flagon then go back in.

Iv'e been in the flagon a lot of times since I finished the planting ring quest.

It's possible that one of the people involved in the next quest (the one you need to start) is dead.

See if Drifa, Bersi, the female Argonian in the Bee and Bar and Helgea are alive.
