Can my Computer handle all the retexture packs?

Post » Mon Jun 10, 2013 10:18 am

My computer can run Skyrin in High quality just fine. With soem mdos as well, but i turned of some so they wouldn't conflit. But when i put any of the retexture packs, the loading takes forever and the game crashes in under 30 minutes. So my question is, can my graphic card handle all the retexture packs at once?

-Retexture pack 1. (official)

-Retexture Pack 2. (official)

-Retexture Pack 3. (official)

-Graphics HD Radeon Series 4800 Series.

-Window 7 32 bits.

You are unclear about what retexture packs you refer to. if you ask a question, it makes sense to make that question as specific as you can.

However, I can tell you, that 32 bit operating systems can't cope with the official Hi-Res Texture Pack DLC (or whatever it is called), and will unavoidably crash with it. That is even mentioned in the official system requirements stated for the DLC

I am not certain of the exact cause, but it could be, that shuffling large textures around may require more free memory/system resources than a 32 bit operating system can provide. There may not much left after the game takes it share, and the GPU needs to be periodically refreshed with new textures, as the scenery and visible objects change when you move around, and these textures need to transit through system memory. Or that is at least my take on the situation.

Another possibility, if it takes very long for your game to crash, is that perhaps you are running a bad mod or something that gradually eats away your system resources until they become inadequate.

The single biggest factor for running HD textures well is the amount of VRAM on your video card. You need more than 1 GB of VRAM to run them properly.

Switching to a 64-bit OS will help a lot, too. While Skyrim is a 32-bit application and won't directly benefit from more than approximately 3.25 GB of system RAM, having a 64-bit OS and more than 4 GB of RAM allows Windows to load drivers and services in the extra space, and leaves that much more for Skyrim to play with.

I just added which retexture packs i'm using (in this case,1,2 and 3 official). Well, i'm only use light mods like: Lighter supply materials, Fixed Followers Lite, More Dragon Lot etc. The only heavy mod i'm using is Monster Mod.

Well, my processor is: Intel ® Core ™ 2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz 3.17 GHZ.

RAM memory: 2,00 GB

Well, like I said, 32 bit operating systems can't copy with the Official Hi-Res textures.

I know that not only from the stated requirements but also from personal experience. (I had a 32-bit Win XP system before updating to a 64-bit Win 7 system, using the same fairly adequate graphics card). So, there you have it.

Perhaps you could experiment with enabling just one or two of the esp's, but there are no guarantees.

Also, some people have prepared sets of "reduced" textures, and I guess even systems, that can pick textures to match one's capabilities, but I don't really know much about them. Somebody else might.

Well, this probably explains it. I think m ycurrent graphic cards only 512 MB of VRAM. Which might explains why i can't run the retexture packs that long.

Your low VRAM may be an additional factor, which slows down your system with the High-Res textures.

However, even with an upgraded graphics card, your 32-bit operating system would not allow you to use those textures.

The solution: don't activate the esp's that enable the High-Res textures.
