Follower Disappeared? Can't Get New Followers!

Hello

About a week ago I doing a normal dungeon when I noticed "Hey, my follower (marcurio) is not here...". So naturally, I went back to the place where he spawns (Riften in this case) and he is not there. So I go find another person, and they say that I already have a follower.

Now I'm a bit confused, as I did not tell my follower to wait anywhere. So I google the problem and find that others have experienced it too. I try EVERY solution suggested, and none seem to work. I tried wating for 100+ hours, sleeping for 100+ hours, fast traveling, and just plain out searching for him on the map.

None of those worked, so i looked back at some earlier saves and see that the last time I see him was at the beginning of the Deadric Quest "The Cursed Tribe". Strangely, I do not have any saves until the beginning of "Walking Nightmare", where marcurio is absent.

I heard that some quests auto clear your follower. So if someone could tell me one of those, that'd be awesome.

Please note that I have completed the Companion Quest "Purify", because I hear that quest has a lot of bugs.

Thank you!

Assuming you have completed the "Purity" quests for Farkas and Vilkas, you can get a quest from either of them called "Dragon Seekers." This quest will force one them to accompany you for the duration of the quest, which "may" fix your follower issue. The chance of them offering the quest is random, so it may take a number of tries to get this quest from them. You may have to complete some other quests for them until they offer the dialogue "Is there any work to be done?", instead of the usual "I'm looking for work" dialogue. I know from reading on these forums that this has fixed the follower issue for some people.
