Some Questions About the Kalpas

Post » Thu Jun 13, 2013 9:42 pm

Hey everyone

I was wondering if somebody could explain a few things I'm left scratching my head about regarding the kalpas in TES.

1) Are they a complete reset in that everything returns to the way it was before anything was created, including the Aedra and Daedra? Or does it only undo Mundus and its history?

2. How repetitious are the kalpas? Are the races and gods constants, or is it possible that there was once a race of terrible Jellyfish People that ruled over Mundus and worshipped Gerpgork the Mad Ocelot during a previous kalpa?

3. I've heard some stuff about Akatosh not wanting this kalpa to end and constantly intervening because he'd get swapped out with Mehrunes Dagon or something? Can anybody add on to this and help flesh it out a bit for me?

Thanks

Everything is eaten, then change and stasis fight and yadadayadayda. I don't think it's the musical chairs that some people make it out to be. Shor son of Shor seems to say that it's all relatively the same. Talos (and possible the mannish time dragon) are the changes that make this kalpa significant.

There are some beings that are trans-kalpic like Molag Bal and some other ones, I think CHIM-masters are also trans-kalpic but I'm not entirely sure. I also wouldn't be surprised if Hermaeus Mora is trans-kalpic because time doesn't move in his sphere seeing as he can see past, present and future.

MK also said that each Kalpa has a different major event that happens that makes it different then the last Kalpa.

Or are they just events that were caused by something else? I don't think it's ever stated what the major event is in this Kalpa.

I think it's pretty established that Talos is this Kalpa's trump card, so to speak.

No, Talos could have been around in the last Kalpa, I honestly don't think we know what events happened in this kalpa that didn't happen in the last.

It was probably Lorkhan in the last kalpa and Talos in this one.

For all we know the major event could be the Heart of Lorkhan being found or Alduin being sent into the future through the time-wound or even the Oblivion cris- actually since in the last Kalpa Mehrunes Dagon was the Leaper Demon King so it's possible that the Oblivion crisis is the major event.

Except Lorkhan was in this Kalpa and Talos didn't become a god until after the events of the warp in the west because the two souls that made up the underking, Wulfharth and Zurin, joined with Tiber Septim's to create the oversoul of Talos.

But by your own theory those who achieve CHIM are trans-kalpic, so wouldn't Talos, being partially comprised of a man who achieved CHIM be trans-kalpic as well? If that's the case, it doesn't seem like he'd need to re-achieve his divinity every new kalpa.

Not quite. Lorkhan is in every kalpa, but in this one he replaced himself within the mythic after he died through a series of events. So effectively we have a new god that is not Aedra but is not Daedra and has taken the role of Lorkhan. He is Nirn's new operating system.

How do you know he doesn't have to re-achieve his divinity every new kalpa? I don't see it as a way to dismiss my theory. He knows he'll have to re-achieve it if CHIM-masters are trans-kalpic. I'm just saying we can't instantly assume Talos is the major event of this kalpa because there are a multitude of major events that could be this Kalpa's major event.

Who cares about "major events"? I'm talking about Talos being the reason this kalpa is not like the other ones and the reason why this one won't end any time soon.

Except we don't know that, Talos could've been around in the previous Kalpa.

Yeah I imagine Talos couldn't have been part of the last kalpa, but will now be part of any future ones. Probably is part of all future ones right now and thinks this one is best.

Talos probably means there won't be any new ones, and if there are I doubt the numidium dragon break with the enantiomorph of 3 shezzarines in creating a new empire would happen again. Maybe? Not sure how much info these spirits have about their past endeavours

I'm not saying he does or doesn't. I'm saying, assuming your idea that those who achieve CHIM are trans-kalpic is correct, it doesn't seem like Talos would need to re-achieve divinity every kalpa, as then he wouldn't be trans-kalpic.

I assume by trans-kaplic you mean transcending kalpas, and not ceasing to exist after the end of a kalpa. Given that, it seems like Talos would continue to exist as Talos in the next kalpa. If he needed to regain his divinity, he wouldn't be trans-kalpic, would he?

This is why I was asking if whether or not it was just Mundus that was reset, or the Aedra and Daedra as well. If the Aedra and Daedra are trans-kalpic, and aren't reborn every time, which was my understanding given that Alduin seems to be an constant, and others such as the Leaper King were said to have existed throughout numerous kalpas with a continuing agenda, it would make sense that Talos would similarly become a constant from this point on, providing the Thalmor don't succeed in destroying him.

And what of Landfall? If it were to happen. I think that would necessitate a Kalpa reset.

I think loveletters came from the fifth era of this Kalpa.
