How do I get Cass to use a different gun? She seems to be stuck with that shotgun she's using. I gave her a fully repaired Caravan Shotgun and ammo but she won't switch to it. I also gave her about 40 sticks of dynamite and she won't use it. I gave her a fully repaired Cowboy Repeater and ammo and she won't use it.

Are these not better than what she's using? Or will she just not upgrade? Or what weapons will she switch with?

I never give followers a gun, they use up too much Ammo. If I do give them a gun, it uses the same ammo as their stock gun. In Cass's case, that is a gun that uses 20 Gauge Rounds. Which means there are no decent guns to give her, unless you want give her hundreds of bullets.

As for Followers, if you give them a weapon with a higher DPS than what they have, then they should use it. Unless you have a mod getting in the way.

She uses her own http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Caravan_shotgun, so whatever you give her to use has to out-perform that.

I guess I could give her my Sturdy Caravan Shotgun since it has a higher DPS. Close quarters I prefer the 10mm as I can get more shots off in VATS.

At least I was able to get her to wear some better armor.

I would like her to use a rifle once in a while though. I was sniping Death Claws near the quarry and having a grand old time since they couldn't even tell where I was or even get to me if they could ... and then Cass runs down with her shotgun and gets wasted asap by Death Claws that were out of my sights. I had to go down and clean up her mess.

I will add that I love her personality and the character. svcks there is no romance option with her though.

A lever-action shotgun will outperform her caravan shotgun and she'll still provide her own 20-gauge ammo.

It may be because she has a perk that improves shotgun performance that she won't use the cowboy repeater you gave her.

Since I rarely use shotguns by the time I get a hunting or riot shotgun I've usually got loads of 12-gauge ammo to give her.

Yeah I don't use any shotguns either so I have a bunch of 'weightless' 12 gauge ammo in stock. I'll probably try to switch her to a riot gun after I find one.
