Medical or advanced restoration lore?

I've been running this idea in my head of a possible mod for Skyrim, sort of similar to the idea of a Dr. Moreau type character. For those who haven't read "The Island of Dr. Moreau" he is an english scientist or medical practitioner who was forced out of where he was practicing due to his odd work with animals. He was basically trying to take animals and make them human, mutilating the bodies. I think his basic idea was make it look human and alter the brain and it will take on the mannerisms of humans. He ends up with an island with these monstrosities.

My idea for the mod is to create a character similar to Moreau who works out of a small island and travels via ship to find new specimens for his work. The only problem is figuring out what exactly the work would be.

I don't know if there really is any sort of lore that expands on the school of restoration or any sort of traditional medical practices. I'd prefer not to make a complete copy of Moreau and have this character mutating animals into a human shape, I'd prefer it be something maybe more fitting to the world.

So what I'm mostly interested in is any sort of expanded knowledge in the lore on these two topics, probably necromancy as well as it could play a good part in the work, though I'd rather him not just be another necromancer either.

Any other bits of thought are welcome as well though i'm asking here more for lore support than for brainstorming on the mod.

Divayth Fyr managed to make multiple female clones of himself, though we don't really know how he did this. He also managed to extend his lifespan without angering anyone, suggesting that it is more a restoration than a necromancy thing. All in all, it is quite possible. Some themes you could look into are the connections with advanced alchemy, the Hist (whose sap mutated the Argonians from lizards), Bosmer lore, and the whole mytho-subgradience thing/Altmer ideal of lesser levels of existence transforming into higher beings.
