[IDEA] Vanilla shape potion replacer

Post » Thu Jun 20, 2013 10:25 am

Hello,

I always used the vanilla potions, or just their improved versions, but recently I bumped into this mod:

http://mw.modhistory.com/download-56-13981

The potions here look amazing in my opinion. There is only one problem - once you install a mod that places potions in game and use potion replacer like this, you either need to create altered version with correctly placed bottles or live with the fact that there will be a lot of floating/bleeding potions.

So I thought, why not to use original mesh and only alter it to look similarly to the potion replacer.

I'm not a modelling expert, but it should not be difficult. Just change texture for glass of the bottle, add shape representing the liquid and couple of small alterations to make the bottles a bit distinctive quality-wise(some silver stripes around the bottle of quality potion maybe? etc.).

If one could get permission from the author, the only thing that would need to be done other than the mentioned changes to meshes would be to clean the esp of changed positions of potions in vanilla game and it should be done.

What do you think?

I'm not entirely sure I follow, but I'm guessing that you're suggesting that someone make a replacer for the vanilla potion bottles which would use a semi-transparent glass texture to show fluid on the inside?

Well, basically yes. I would like to have vanilla meshes(with just slight adjustments) plus the textures of the given mod, or similar. Reason is simple - the vials in the mod I linked look great in my opinion, but I hate the fact that it would not look good with any mods that place any potions ingame.

Yes, that's always been a problem with that mod (and all of vurt's trees too ).

What you suggest certainly wouldn't be very difficult. Do you have blender installed? You just need to know how to make a cylinder, really.

I do, but I have no idea how to work there. I have some experience with Cinema4D, but I wasn't able to do anything in Blender. Btw. cylinder? I would say ellipsoid(as the fluid), no?

Unless you imagine the inside of those bottles to be carved out in an ovoid shape. No. That would make no sense. Cylinder is the http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/speedfighter/speedfighter1004/speedfighter100400190/6854636-half-full-wine-bottle-isolated-on-white-background-with-copy-space.jpg, though it might need a bit more forming (could just copy and shrink the potion model itself (which is probably what I'd do, I just simplified it to a "cylinder" for simplicity's sake...). If you need any pointers in blender, feel free to PM me. I need to clear my inbox again...
