Does bethesda using the word 'evil' bother you?

Does it make you roll your eyes when the writers describe a character as 'evil'?

For me it feels like a cop-out. Rather than go into depth with a character, writers call them evil.

Do you see this as lazy writing and a problem with the current direction of TES lore?

Some examples maybe? Other than the overtly-in-your-face evil Thalmor, I can't really think of any off hand.

i've never seen Bethesda out and out state that somebody or something is "objectively" evil??? usually the people saying "X IS EVIL!!!" are the people who are opposed to whatever X is doing at the moment. i fail to see how this can be a problem if it's not actually something that exists

ps the thalmor aren't evil

ed mannimarco predates Redguard and therefore is a really bad example to use in an argument like this because they aren't going in the Arena/Daggerfall direction anyway

Depends on the situation. It seems kind of silly to insist that such a label for beings such as Molag Bal (a dominator and corrupter) and Potema (considered in-universe to be one of the few beings that could be considered unambiguously evil) and Mannimarco (a selfish, power-obsessed necromancer who enthralls people just to sate his own morbid fascination with power, whose followers enjoy making their victims suffer) is somehow erroneous. Just because it's mostly grey and gray morality does not mean that beings cannot have combinations of characteristics that are generally viewed as evil.

On the other hand, I do think that in some cases, the label is misapplied, in-universe and out-of-universe.

Ah another example being the skyrim loading screen describing alduin as simply evil.
