Error 5006 when install from disk to pc

Post » Sat Jun 22, 2013 12:58 am

So just got a new pc with windows 7 as the operating system. Want to install oblivion from my original game disc (i.e. not the goty version).

When it starts it comesx up with an error saying:

"An error (-5006 : 0x800ffff) has occured while running the setup.

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor: Bethesda Softworks."

I've googled this and can't find a fix. One thread suggested delteing or renaming C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional then rebooting and trying again. I've done this but the same error appears and the deleted files then reappear, including when i've renamed them.

Can anyone help? Is there a way to stop the files reappearing? Or a more simple way to fix this (any alterntive to it automatically using instalshield?).

I'm getting very frustrated with this, please try to keep any answers as easy to follow as possible as I am not a technical person at all.

Thanks.
