Places of power in Skyrim?

Post » Sat Jun 22, 2013 10:49 am

So for my mod, which involves multiverse-teleportation, I need to find a suitable location to house the multiverse-teleporter in Skyrim.

Preferably one which has a lot of ancient lore surrounding it, nord or dwemer or snow-elf, places/areas which have lots of magic and power steeped in them.

My first thought was to build it upon the summit of the Throat of the World, then I decided to build it inside the mountain itself, with High Hrothgar acting as the base. Apologies if this is lore-breaking,

Any other such places you could think of?

On top of the cavern that holds the Eldergleam. Middle of a volcanic tundra in Eastmarch. Considered to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, living thing in Tamriel. Though to consider it is also associated with Kynareth.

I'm thinking Sarthaal. It had the Eye of Magnus and http://www.imperial-library.info/content/kinmune buried there.

Eldergleam Sanctuary has been already taken up by Emma's mod, I don't feel right taking that location...

But Sarthaal looks interesting, certainly.

Problem is that it's tied to a main quest, so either I would have to complete the quest to proceed, or I can build some more ruins in that area itself.

Btw, is my original idea hugely lore-breaking in any way?

I'm kinda basing it there because of the Time-Wound on top of the peak, the rift making it easier to jump between universes, (well, in my mod at least)

You could always add a new section of the ruins that archaeologists recently uncovered for your mod to work. I reckon Saarthal was a big enough place for it.

Not entirely sure. Could you explain what you mean by "universes" a bit?

Well, other universes beyond Mundus. Ours, for example. The Song of Ice and Fire verse, the LOTR universe etc...

That would be kinda lore-breaking...

I know there isn't any precedent for this at all, so I'm trying to adapt this so it doesn't violate everything.

Erm, maybe all these universes are other dreams of the Godhead? Just thinking out loud here, help would be appreciated trying to make this as lore friendly as possible.

Yea but that just kinda feels like a cop-out now if it were other Mundus like universes among the Godheads you can make a case of shadow magic which is said to be able to break the barriers of universes and let one be every version of themselves in other universes, iirc it was what Azra Nightweilder was trying to do.

So these shadow realms are like alternate universes, where there are different versions of the same people?

Hmmm...that could work. Plus there's a quest in DB where you hunt for Azra Nightweilder's staff in Skyrim too...

Is there any more info on shadow magic besides in the UESP wiki?

From what I've read so far, that's about it.

*sigh*

I don't think I'll use shadow magic per se, something akin to it.

Anyway, I'll stick with my original plan, hope I don't butcher the lore too much.

BTW, which of the races that lived in Skyrim long ago was most gifted with magic? Snow-elves, nords or the dwemer?

The Falmer once had a society that rivaled the Altmer in Alinor and the Ayleids in Cyrod, the Dwemer are by far were the most advanced race until they went poof. At one point the nords were skilled with magic before becoming ignorant to it. I'd go with Falmer or Dwemer.

Not dwemer, they are used often enough. And compared to the other Mer we know them in and out.

Or I could just say that my artifact and the Eye of Magnus were made by the same unknown person/entity, since I'm basing it in Saarthal.

There is still no definite clue as to what the Eye of Magnus does, is there, besides it being too unstable to stay in Mundus?

It wasn't that the eye was unstable at the start it was whats-his-face made it unstable when he tried to take control over it.

Well, it can destroy Mundus

And, this is what some of the mages said:

That's quite interesting...

Okay, I can't have the artifact built by the unknown being that created the Eye, after all.

So, revised version - Nords decimate snow-elves, nords find artifact made by them, locks it away in Saarthal like KIMMUNE and the Eye. Artifact remains hidden after all this time, until the ruins were unearthed by the College.

Sounds plausible?

Labyrintian popped up on the dwemer map the synod scholar projected.
