Re-inventin Smithing Perks and Crafting Categories

Post » Sun Jun 23, 2013 10:40 pm

Hi there,

I am quite new to modding with the creation kit and I am currently working on a mod to re-invent Weapons, Armor and Smithing. i have followed steps outlined by creation kit tutorials but have run into some road blocks. i know there is a lot of interest in crafting mods and hope that contributions to this thread can help me to create my mod and help others who are trying to do the same.

+What is my vision+

My mod aims to...

+enable crafting of most of the apparel and weapons which already appear in the game.

(Enable Crafting of Forsworn, Vampire, as well as simple items such as Shiv, Knife, Leather Caps, Gloves ect, but many of these are renamed)

+Rename most of the Weapons and Apparel which already appear in the game to be more of a description rather than factionalised weapons

(e.g Orcish Dagger is now, "Brutal Dagger" and Dwarven Greatsword is now "Long Geldensword"

+Rename the Smithing perks to be more "skill" based as if doing an apprenticeship

(e.g start the game with basic crafting skills, like making fur armor, simple leather caps, boots, gloves, basic weapons like Shiv and Knife)

(Steelsmithing is now named Apprentice Crafting and allows Iron weapons and armor to be crafted as well as fined versions of what you could make initially, e.g nicer leather boots, hide armor - basic stuff, but of decent quality.

(Elven smithing is renamed Fine Smithing and allows you to make more ornate weapons and armour like steel and imperial, or chose he other way "Dwarven Smithing which is renamed Crude Smithing and allows you to make rough, scary type weapons like forsworn and storm cloak. the perks progress in much the same way as they did before but allow you to chose between making fine, nice weapons or scary brutal dark weapons.

+Reclassify the Forge, choosing between Swords, Axes, Heavy Armor, Tools ect instead of Iron, Imperial, Orcish, Dwarven.

+What i have done to acheive this+

These are the steps i have taken to make it happen.

Step 1.

Renamed the Smithing Perks.

-Craftwork- what you can make initially, doesnt appear in the game because it isn't a perk

1 SteelSmithing - renamed to Apprentice Crafting - allows to make quality weapons and armor.

2 Elven Smithing is now called Fine Smithing - allows to make finer quality weapons and armor with fine design

3 Dwarven Smithing is now called Crude Smithing -allows to make strong weapons and armor with crude styling

4 Advance Smithing keeps the same name - higher qulity goods with finer design

5 Orcish in now called Dark smithing - strong weapons and with dark styling

6 Glass Smithing is now called Ornate Crafting - ornate, beautiful weapons and armor

7 Ebony Smithing is now called Consecrated Smithing - advanced dark styling

8 Dragon is now called Royal Smithing - the most beautiful high quality weapons and armor

9 Daedric is the same name - daedric is much the same

Step 2.

Rename the Smithing classifications

Hide - Swords

Steel - Daggers

Iron - Axes

Leather - Maces and Hammers

Dwarven - Bows

Orcish - Tools

Studded - Shields

Ebony - Head Wear

Daedric - Footwear

Glass - Gloves and Gauntlets

Jewelry - Jewelry

Dragon - Heavy Armor (bodis)

Elven - Light Armor (bodis)

Step 3

Renamed all the weapons

made new keywords correlating to what they are going to be classiefied as in the crafting menu. and attached them to the object id in gameplay menu

and added the keywords to each item, leaving their already existing categories there aswell

+RoadBlock+

I then opened my game with my plugin.

went to craft something (my character has the Steelsmithingperk(apprentice crafting)

in the crafting menu

Swords

Daggers

IMPERIAL

Axes

HOUSEBUILDING

JEWELRY

Misc.

Problem.

under swords, i have iron armor

in daggers i have swords, daggers, maces, hammer

in imperial i have the same

axes has an axe, which is right except i should have 4 axes in there

misc contains everything!

- what i want to know is -

+Why havent all of my categories been added to the menu, when there are recipies which should have enabled the category.?

...do you think it is to do with the perk?

...do you think that because i left he items already existing keyword there as well as added mine, it didn't know what to do?

...do you think that some categories cant be changed?

+Why have items which i marked with their new keyword not been sent ther? e.g item marked as Mace hammer not been sent to "macehammer" menu, instead it is in misc?

...i have no ideas as to why this is, some items are fine other aren't. maybe because i have left their pre existing keywords as they are?

i would really appreciate any input, suggestions or tips, anything.

i am going to continue working on this mod tonight and i will update if i come up with a soloution. in the mean time if you should read this please give your opinion.

hope that this thread will help others who are trying to work on a similar project.
