Saved games corrupted after upgrading to LE

Post » Sun Jun 30, 2013 6:31 pm

Hey everyone!

I seem to have a problem. I've recently upgraded from the vanilla version of skyrim (without mods or addons) to the legendary edition. I used my old saves which loaded without a problem.

However, since I've installed the legendary edition, I have been having trouble saving my games.

  1. I save, however it does not show up on the "load game" list ingame. I find them in my saved game folder (documents/my games/skyrim/saves) and they all have the .ess.tmp extension at the end. When I remove the .tmp part, it seems to work properly and I can load those without a problem.
  2. My last save before upgrading was save number 89, and now, every time I try to save, the save slots in my folder are called "save 91", which is quite confusing.

I hope the information given is enough for some Skyrim computer geek to spot the problem and/or help me out! Again, I have no third party mods installed.

Thanks in advance for any replys! :thanks:

It seems that skyrim does not save the game properly. !!!

Can you check your permissions to your "My Games " save folder. Maybe you should add your permissions manualy...

I just checked, it says that the system has "full control". (using windows7, btw)

That's from another user btw.

Edit: SOLVED. Save files got corrupted somehow (normal save file is .ess, corrupted is .ess.tmp)

Solution (If someone gets the same problem):

1. Load your game, that is corrupted.
2. Load that game again.
3. Save with a "save " command. (now you can save).
4. Delete all corrupted saves + all , that you really don't need( too much saves will corrupt the folder).
5. Use command "pcb" in a non-Skyrim room (like a custom house or the developers place(cocsmoke i think).
6. Exit that room to skyrim.
7. Save game, exit game, reload game.

This fixed it for me.

Your really best to not load an Autosave into a updated version of these games. Best to use a manual slot. Also, fork the save you load, that way you have an original to go back to. Then save and reload that forked save and move on.
