"Noob Friendly Weekend" is here!

I know there's another thread about putting together a "Noob Friendly Weekend", but this is different: it's here!

I've been working with a Crysis 3 PC player, DARR-of_the_dead, to get console players involved. I've been telling everyone who would listen that the event is this weekend and to come play Crysis 3 MP and help C3 noobs learn to stay alive and have fun.

That said, we can use help. If you're a veteran C3 player and you're willing to pass along tips and hints to help noobs, play C3 today and tomorrow - any time of the day you want - and look for players who are rank 10 and under to help in Maximum TDM. (We chose this for consoles since we didn't ask Crytek in time to have them switch the "Dev's Choice" server over to TDM so we'd have dedicated event servers.) There's never anyone playing Max. TDM, so we thought these servers would be empty and we could meet noobs there.

People who already know about the event will have "LRNR" somewhere in their profile (either set as their clan tag or on their Xbox gamer card). Use your headset if you see someone has this and just invite them to an XBL party. Talk to them and give them hints. TAKE IT EASY ON THEM, TOO! That's the whole point. Teach them - don't destroy them. We're trying to grow our community.

If you're a C3 veteran and you're willing to help, put "TCHR" somewhere on your profile so noobs can see it (make it your clan tag for the next two days, or put it as your motto or something on your gamer card). Noobs are supposed to look for veterans with that in their profile.

Also, please pass along the word that it's "Noob Friendly Weekend" to C3 players you know who would otherwise destroy noobs. There will be more noobs than usual (hopefully) and we don't want people to decide it's "Noob Stomp Weekend" and drive them away from the community. Just ask them not to use combos like "Typhoon w/Rapid Fire" if they're not willing to teach noobs this weekend.

This event was advertised by Crytek on their official Twitter feed, so I hope we get a lot of people.

Thanks for your help, everyone!!

Wow, I posted this about "Noob Friendly Weekend" and it took all of 2 - 1/2 hours before I got some hate mail from a Crysis 3 veteran (who I won't name) on xbox live. Basically, it said that they were going to spend the weekend noob stomping and that they don't support helping noobs. (To be fair, here's exactly what they said, " . . .i dnt support ur stupid friendly noob weekend no one on xbox wants this s*%# its kill or be killed on xbox . . ." Of course I reported him. The rest of the message MORE than violated the Xbox code of conduct - it had some racism thrown in for measure.)

Maybe it's just me, but I don't game for stats. I play certain games because I like 'em. People like this are bringing the Crysis mp community to almost zero. Hopefully, enough C3 players are willing to ask people to stop noob stomping when they see it. I admit, I don't say something every time I see it. But, the few times I've asked someone (politely) to stop noob stomping, they either just left the match or took it down a few notches.

Crytek can't save this game. They can patch, fix, and promote all they want to, but it's simple supply and demand that determines whether or not Crysis lives or dies. If people make the game so it's not fun for people, they'll stop playing. From there it's an easy equation: fewer players = fewer available matches = less (or no) support from Crytek because it's not financially sustainable.

I really like playing Crysis titles. They're so good because they're unique. It's not your usual BF3/ CoD type of "soldiers and guns" fps game. You have to think constantly so you can manage your suit energy and all that. But, some - not all - of the regular players are turning me off of them.
