Crashing at start-up

Post » Mon Jul 01, 2013 10:49 pm

So just recently, a day or so ago actually, my game sort of " broke ". I was playing away, doing my first entire Legion playthrough with some mods to help enhance the flavor, so to speak. Now I had been doing fine, the occasional CTD every hour or two, which I learned to live with. Suddenly though, this day or so ago, my game crashed. I figured I'd simply start it up again, like usual. But when I did, it crashed at the copyright page, basically start-up. I've fiddled with my load-order and everything else I could to to fix it and nothing has worked.

Eventually, I disabled all my mods / uninstalled them. That worked, for about a minute. Whenever I opened my Pip-Boy to equip a weapon it crashed. In one case I played for a minute and it crashed. I think it has something to do with relying on a mod that isn't there any more. I've tried fixing this for a day now and nothing has worked, any ideas?

Here's my load-order by the way:

I admit, I'm not sure where to put this, so its placement here is a shot in the dark. Hopefully someone has an idea of where to start, thanks in advance.

I would suggest you get rid of the CNR beta. It may be conflict with your mod's that's why I don't really use beta's is because they cause corruption to your game.

That's the thing, I'd been running it perfectly fine for a day or so before this occurrence. It had been giving me no issues then a day or so ago it just stopped working properly.

It's also a huge help to my Legion playthrough, so I'm reluctant to remove it unless it's the issue for sure.

Problem is, mods can cause game save corruption that takes a while before it gets bad enough to start crashing.

You also may have two mods that work on Energy Weapons, which might be OK, but you have no Bashed Patch to get them to all work together.

what I would do is check FNV Edit and make a merge patch watch Gophers vids if you don't know how to do this if a merge patch doesn't solve most of your problems try a fresh install delete nv and it's contents and start over

I see, well, I went ahead and uninstalled it. I tried to play the game after, and it keeps crashing at the first screen.

What is a Bashed Patch?

the mod manager wry flash for nv has a bashed patch feature similar to a merged patch in which it takes all the mods and attempts to get them to play well together i've only used FNV Edit and it's merged patch so i can only help with that here's a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVKe51dRm2M

FNV Edit is not a mod manager but a conflict detecter and problem solver usually anyways watch Gophervids and have you cleaned your dlcs as that can greatly impact your game clean them after watching the link above it's important that you do

Okay, thanks, I've installed FNVEdit and I'm watching the video now.

Any more advice on trying to fix the crash?

Edit: I get a fatal error as Edit is loading and only about half my mods are loaded properly, any clue how to fix that?

it should tell you in the text area usually the last mod it tried to load is missing a master or a plugin required and make sure you clean those dlcs

How do I do that?

Oh and great news, I used FNVEdit and watched Gopher, my game runs perfectly fine! No more crashing as I open my Pip-Boy to select a weapon. Thanks to some of Gopher's tips, my game runs a heck of a lot smoother too. Just need to find out how to use Fake Full Screen.

Anyway, thank you all. I greatly appreciate it.
