I own the house in Morthal and have the bald guy as my housecarl. Do I need to deck him out south ebony armor? Also do followers benefit from enchantments? If I enchanted a set of ebony and gave it to him...

Quick google search found this. As for what armor, whatever you are willing to give up to your follower. I give my followers whatever armor I have available. If they are a heavy armor user, I'm light armor, I toss the best armor their way, if I'm light, then I try getting them the best as well. No reason not too.
