Combat Message Lag

Post » Sun Jul 07, 2013 10:37 am

Just reinstalled Fallout NV with all its DLC's to have another play through.. and now I remember an irritating problem I had when I did this a couple years ago..

When Im in combat, the messages that appear in the top left (hit V to enter vats, critical hit on gecko, etc.. etc..) all lag.. by a lot.

I helped Sunny clear out the geckos.. and was still getting messages 1-2 minutes after the last one was dead..

Googled around and cant seem to find others mentioning this.. anyone ran into it and have a fix?

thanks..

You could use http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/47746//? to get rid of messages entirely. I don't know of any fixes to get rid of the lag, seems like it would be something you might have to mess around with in your .ini file.

First thing to rule out is a background app causing problems. Perform a strict clean boot, although you may need to keep the Steam parts enabled. Once you go through this in MSCONFIG, then restart your machine and see what happens in the game

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Also, make sure the rumble is disabled, if you are not using a controller, in the Prefs file, in My Documents/My Games/Fallout New Vegas, find this line and make sure it looks like this:

bGamePadRumble=0

The above may help, but not stop the after combat messages. I get a ton as I tend to stay scoped until the area is cleared. Then I get to hear about all the limbs or heads or criticals I get.

I tried that last week. My game did not like it. I started getting CTDs with VATS. I tried to narrow it down to the mods I thought might be causing it but ultimately just gave up and changed the prefs back to =1 since I wasn't experiencing any major performance issues in the first place.
