Ebony - Blood of a God?

Post » Sun Jul 14, 2013 11:43 am

So I've read that ebony was the blood of a god. Is it Lorkhan's? I was thinking about it because it's my understanding that a good majority of ebony mines are in Morrowind, where his heart likewise was. Was his heart relocated to Morrowind or was it discovered there? What relevance is there to using what could be Lorkhan's blood to make Daedric armor?

Funky questions, I know.

Yes, ebony is Lorkhan's blood. His heart ended up in Morrowind during the Dawn Era after it was torn out by Trinimac and Auriel fastened it to an arrow and shot it there, with the impact creating Red Mountain.

You're quite correct about Lorkhan.

Ebony is a magical material that can withstand a supernatural amount of stress without fracturing or denting and for that reason it is used for amour and weaponry.

I suppose that because it is an inherently powerful magical material it is also capable holding powerful enchantments, which is what daedric armour is, armour infused with the soul of a lesser daedra. As such it is probably the best or maybe even the only material that can hold such magics.

See, I was wondering if, because Lorkhan is so close to being both Aedra and Daedra, that was why you could make Daedric armor out of it.

One thing about Ebony that I wondered is with the Heart of Lorkhan missing from Morrowind, would it still be considered "divine" blood?

The Heart isn't any less divine just because it went missing. Someone would have to establish that it was a fake, or that the Heart fell to Nirn someplace completely different (or never actually fell to Nirn at all) to call ebony's nature into question.

But if ebony is indeed the blood of Lorkhan, how come the Dremora clearly have large amounts of it available in the Deadlands? I think it might just be common superstition that it is divine blood.

I don't think that you need Ebony to make Daedric Armor, ebony is just the best material available on Nirn to make it.

Madness Armor is also Daedric Armor (my opinion) and you can't get Madness Ore in Tamriel.

It could be that the blood of a daedra is similar to Lorkhan's bood. Madness Ore may be the same deal

It is the same deal. Daedric Princes are quite literally the realms they own. So when you mine madness ore, you're mining part of Sheogorath.

I'd suspect it's divine blood, but not necessarily Lorkhan's (as the Dremora clearly have plenty of ebony). It's also volcanic glass. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

I don't think that's exactly the case. The Daedric Princes constructed their realms using aetherial refuse, and Jyggalag has seemingly been able to leave the Shivering Isles forever. That's not to say that Mehrunes Dagon couldn't fill his own realm with his blood or something like that.

I was always under the impressions the Daedric Realms are truly part of them. I liked the idea in Shivering Isles to basically meet Sheogorath in his own head...

They definitely reflect their prince (as the Dark Seducers say, the Shivering Isles are a reflection of Sheogorath) and the Prince definitely has major power over the realm, but the http://www.imperial-library.info/content/nu-mantia-intercept-letter-7 says they constructed their realms.
