Question about reloading saves

Post » Mon Jul 15, 2013 3:58 am

I reload saves quite often due to my OCD, sometimes a few times where only a few seconds has gone by since loading the save up. Will there be any effects of this that will screw up my current save in any manner, or am I fine to continue? Talking losing 30 minutes of play here, which I'd rather not, but if I might have done anything that will crop up sooner or later in my save...

In past games excessive loads like your describing would cause problems. Remember, your dealing with a Database of up to 20MB in your Save File. In past games, the Quickload was not a complete Refresh of the Save Data, it was only reloading the cell that you are in and other stuff related to it. I think Skyrim might be a bit different (there is not as much Autosave corruption as in times past).

I've seen some oddities with loading - particularly if waiting for the game to reload after death. I had a repeatable issue with this a while back, (and I can't remember which location this was), where there were dead mages lying on the ground as a part of a vanilla quest. There were bottles of magicka placed next to them. I picked a couple of these bottles up, and then promptly died at the hands of an enemy around the corner. When the game reloaded, to a point from before I'd picked up these bottles of magicka, when I reached the mages, the bottles were not there. If I quit the game completely and loaded the same save from the menu, the bottles would still be there. This was repeatable - if I died again and it reloaded, the bottles wouldn't be there - but if I quit the game and loaded the same save from the menu, they would be there.

Something must still be happening which doesn't refresh things completely.

No quicksave/load or autosave in use on my end, only hard saves.
