Best of TES... but not the usual

Post » Mon Jul 15, 2013 9:33 am

Which TES game's inclusion of each of the following slightly more obscure categories (than the usual of world maps, gameplay, graphics, etc) was your favourite? I'll share my own, then you guys can copy the categories and fill it out yourself if you want. :D I thought it would be more fun than going into the usual arguments over things such as combat and depth and questlines and so on. Note that I've only played M, O and S.

You can do the whole list yourself or just comment on a few if you wish.

Interesting list.

Why do you think so? By madness I mean any form of mental illness which makes the character a little... crazy. Such as Glarthir's paranoia, or Caldana's hilarious Skooma addiction. And don't you enjoy the depiction of madness in Shivering Isles?

I agree with PW on this. The portrayal of mental illness in TES is completely bogus, very inaccurate, and based on stupid stereotypes rather than any understanding of how the mind works (or fails to work.) SI, while a great fantasy, is a poor depiction of madness.

I agree that it doesn't explore the complexity of the psychology of madness, but I don't feel that it makes the madness depicted any less fun. I still find characters like Sheo, Glarthir and the like memorable, and fun to interact with. A more realistic version of madness probably wouldn't be as entertaining.

I think that the 'mad' characters are so entertaining, at least in my opinion, that they more than make up for the possibly unrealistic and stereotypical portrayal of madness in the games.

And anyway, who is to say what 'madness' truly is? Madness as a broad term, that is. Sheogorath personnifies a very open, universal and silly portrayal of madness. Is he not still mad? I don't think clinical madness is the only way of viewing the concept.

Yeah, well, that's just it. Mental illness is not fun. It's illness. Suffering.
