sneak skill over 100 is (still) redundant?

Post » Mon Jul 15, 2013 2:37 pm

this paragraph intrigues me "Similar to the http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Pickpocket#Bugs, wearing equipment with http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Fortify_Sneak enchantment may lower sneaking success when at or near the cap for this skill. **Reported fixed with Patch. Please verify**" :from the offical elderscrolls wiki. I havent seen any notes like this on uesp? which is it? is it effective to enchant it over 100? thanks

I don't know about Fortify Sneak, but I definitely can confirm that values over 100 is not redundant. Try game breaking instead. You can literally sneak passed like 10 bandits and none of them would notice.

::has 200 sneak::

Resto Loop's a good way to get insane numbers, hell I dunno if that's been "fixed" yet as Beth only concentrates on non quest-breaking bugfixes. It's highly possible.

I made a bunch of overpowered potions and enchanted gear before they could ruin my game anyway, so yeah my Sneak is extremely high. No one sees me, ever.

yea I just tested with the resto loop (it still works), and the fortify sneak enchant is not redundant, not sure it ever was. was just that paragraph from the wiki that had me confused.

Apparently "Sneaking" and "Harder to be detected" are two different things. The enchantment for Sneak (Sneaking is x% better) and the alchemy effect for Sneak (You are x% harder to be detected) are two different things. When you get to 100 Sneak, then I think Sneak DOES become redundant. At that point, it's better to be harder to be detected (through alchemy, through Vampirism, or Invisibility spell.

You sure it's not redundant? Try resto loop a sneak enchant up to 1000% and start walking around. I'll try it later when I get to the xbox

I had a ring with "sneaking is 40971296% better" and walked around windhelm in broad daylight at the market stalls and no one could see me.. but I noticed now that my sneak skill is still at 100 so Im not entirely sure what's going on. maybe the number was too high to be displayed in the skills menu.. shouldnt it say sneak skill "93459549483984" or something similar

Well, I wouldn't overanolyze what the numbers and percentages should read. I have a ring of Carry Weight, lets me carry millions of lbs. Its value is in the negative billions...

Be careful, though. Some of these skills can sort of rollover when too high and you'll be considered pretty much "unskilled." Like Smithing for example, if it's too high you won't be able to do anything at the forge.
