Has anyone else deleted Dawnguard from their game+hdd and tried to re-download it from Steam? I've tried to re-download it, but since I've already purchased it previously, it won't let me do so again. I deleted Dawnguard prior to starting my current character because I didn't want to deal with all of the vampire attacks throughout this entire playthrough, until actually playing the dlc. Now that I've completed most of the vanilla content, I'm eager to start up this dlc again, but need to re-download and install it.

I've sent an email to steam support, but I'm waiting for a reply and just thought I'd see what people on here had to say.

You need to verify the files.

And you don't need to delete it. Just disable it in the Data Files section of the Skyrim Launcher before it gets tied to the save.

Re-downloading dlc from Xbox live is easy with just a button click. I wasn't expecting much trouble doing the same with Steam, so I didn't think twice about deleting Dawnguard. I'll definitely not do the same again.

...btw, how do I go about verifying the files?

In Steam, go to the Library section, right-click on Skyrim, click on Properties -> Local Files -> Verify

In you Steam game list, right click "Skyrim", select "Properties", go to the "Local Files" tab, select "Verify Integrity of Game Cache...". Takes a few minutes.

1. Load Steam
2. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
3. Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
4. Steam will verify the game's files, and redownload any missing or corrupt files - this process may take several minutes.

That's it!

Bear in mind that if you have edited your Skyrim ini, then it'll redownload that as well, as it'll detect it as being different than default, so if that is the case then make a backup of your ini before.
