Archive | Packing | Uploading | Compression

Hi all

I'm close to finalize my mod and I need your advise again, so I've looked into this links:

http://www.creationkit.com/File_Menu#Create_Archive

http://www.creationkit.com/Uploading_To_Steam_Workshop

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAbmFmfR3LY&playnext=1&list=PL554EF7F3C2C7B6C7

But none of them talk about compression and I really need that, my mod stands at 1 GB + (because of .wav and .dds). Dialogue can be compressed with UnFuzer (joins .wav and .lip files):

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9797/?

But my problem is:

-Dialogue views .xml (50 mb)

-Meshes .nif (300 mb)

-Sound .wav (400 mb)

-Textures .dds .tga (300 mb)

Is there a TES "friendly" way of compressing all this? Or I'm "doomed" to not publish in Steam (over 150 mb)?

Many thanks.

Dialogue views: You should be able to safely leave these out of the archive as they are only used by CK.

Meshes: I suspect that nothing can be done about this.

Sound: Compress to .fuz files as you mentioned.

Textures: Convert to .dds, remove unnecessary layers and compress (I think the rule of thumb is: DXT1 for textures without an alpha channel, DXT5 for textures with an alpha channel)

But I think you might have to split your mod into modules (and clearly state what has to be downloaded for the mod to work) if you want to publish on Steam. I doubt that the measures stated will bring you below the maximum file size limit.

Bad news for me.... Well, not that bad, I prefer publishing in one place, it's easier for post support.

About the sound, I have .wav files that do NOT have .lip file (ambient, etc), is it ok to use unfuzer anyways for that files?

Thanks again.
