A Dunmer's View of the Ebonheart Pact

Post » Wed Jul 17, 2013 5:31 am

This a rough first draft. It is meant to convey the thoughts of unidentified Dunmer in the years that lead up to ESO. I had hoped to find something in the Lore to justify the Ebonheart Pact. This is the result of that.

Diary of a Dunmer

The first entry is from 2E 560, but no other dates are given.

- Received reports of a curious illness in Stormhold.

- They are calling it the Knahaten Flu. Sounds like the makings of a plague. Oddly the Argonians appear uneffected.

- I am convinced that Blackmarsh is the source of this outbreak. The Argonians may not suffer from it. but that doesn't mean they don't carry it. House Dres continues to rely on Argonian slaves, but those with better sense prefer the Khajiit these days.

- That king in High Rock married a Redguard. Power is consolidating in the West. The Nords are as ever a concern. Could Mabjaarn have her eyes on the Imperial City as well. A protracted war between the Bretons and Nords would thin their ranks. That would be most welcome.

- The Empire truly is dead. Mabjaarn is dead. Akaviri invaders are marching South through Skyrim. This is most unexpected news but possibly good news. Word is that the Nords gather to make a stand at Riften. What ever comes out of that alive won't be much of a threat to us.

- Thank Vivec the invaders are defeated. Every last one drowned. They were fools to march on Mournhold. I heard the Nords wasted no time crowning Jorunn their High King. It's a shame the Akiviri didn't kill him too. I had hoped for some internal strife in Skyrim.

- Elsweyr is all but closed to outsiders, All news is grim. The Knahaten Flu may yet wipe out the Khajiit. You rarely see new Khajiit slaves anymore. There are plenty of Argonians to be had, but who wants them after what happened with House Dres. We suffer in the South and are still recovering from the Invasion in parts of the North. We know Jorunn gathers his strength in Skyrim, but he shows no signs of moving on Cyrodiil. I was sure by now the men would would spilling blood over the Ruby Throne. What are Emeric and Jorunn waiting for.

- At last signs of movement, but only from High Rock. Emeric has a Covenant of sorts. It is just as I thought; the Bretons and Redguards have come to terms. Though I was not expecting the Orcs to be involved. Why would Emeric make any concessions to the Orcs? It puzzles me. Were they worried about the Orcs rising up while they marched their strength East. Could a similar fear also be keeping Jorunn's forces in Skyrim? At this point I would be happy just to have his army off our border. If Jorunn wants our assurance we won't move on Skyrim, he is welcome to it. The strength of Morrowind is needed in Morrowind.

- Those fools in Cyrodiil have called on Molag Bal. We all felt the Soulburst. They say Dark Anchors have fallen around the Imperial City. Daedra swarm the place.

- It is worse than I thought. Nirn is being pulled into Coldharbour. The only point of access seems to be in Cyrodiil. I have no faith that men can stop it. What of the Mer? The Bosmer are weak. The Altmer can't be trusted. In fact It would not surprise me to learn they had a hand in this. What options are left.

- It has to be us. We must send a large expeditionary force at once to avert total catastrophe. But how can we? Dare we leave Morrowind so vulnerable? Damn Jorunn and the Nords. They hold up in Skryim and do nothing but threaten our border. The plague take them all!

- Maybe I misjudged Jorunn. He is suprisingly shrewd for a Nord. Even the offer of a non-aggression pact and a promise to support any claim he might make on the Ruby Throne failed to impress him. He demands an allied assault force with him as supreme commander. He demands we give up the practice of slavery as well. Tha last demand is surely meant to insult us.

- Terms have been reached. He got his position as commander. We agreed to give up our Argonian slaves, but only if he can convince Blackmarsh to send a sizable force. Hardly a sacrifice. There is little demand for their kind in Morrowind these day. It might just work out for the best. Perhaps Jorunn will choke to death on the Knahaten Flu those Argonians drag out of Blackmarsh with them. In a not unexpected move House Telvanni has refused to join. I don't know what they are plotting.

- Blackmarsh has agreed to the terms. The sooner we end this Molag Bal business, the sooner we can end this "Ebonheart Pact" nonsense.

- Alinor crowns a child for a queen. This new Aldmeri Dominion complicates matters.
