Is sneaking in Morrowind worthwhile?

Just wondering.

Does it do anything?

Thanks

Hells to the yes.

If you get it high enough you can steal stuff right under people's noses or sneak up on anything and get critical strikes...

So, yes, it does something. :)

If your character is good at it, it's game-breakingly powerful. If they're unskilled at it, it does nothing.

Combining things like Sneak and Marksman allows you to snipe for critical hits from a distance, and take down even high-level opponents with 2-4 plain iron arrows (from an enchanted bow so it affects certain undead and Daedra).

At high levels, combined with Chameleon or Invisibility, you can essentially go anywhere and do anything right in front of most NPCs without them noticing.

Problem is, starting out can be difficult, because you don't have enough skill to succeed often enough to gain more skill. Unless you take it as a major skill, paid training is about your only viable option to get to the point where you can self-train.
