I am on a $2000 budget for a gaming computer that I am looking to build myself from parts I can buy off of http://www.newegg.com. This computer will be needed to run on highest quality settings at frame rates above or close to 30fps in games like crysis 3. After research I have found that this should run at just over 30 fps on crysis 3. Please feel free to shoot me any advice or anything I may have missed. A common question I have is does a case and optical drive have compatability requriements? but that is a minor question.

You will be just throwing money away with that build, 16GB is just overkill, you can also get much cheaper CPUs that wont cause any bottleneck at all.

Luckily the last month I was discussing about which PC would be best at the moment to run anything on max settings for a few years without throwing money away.

With your budget you can do a lot. You should add an ssd for os and for games, a cpu cooler, a better graphics card, and possibly a better cpu. You can cut back on ram and always add more later.

Because he has the budget there is no reason to just waste money for nothing in return.


A SSD? All it does is decrease the load times and OS launch and both are already fast as lighting with any good 7200rpm HDD.


More of the same for the CPU which is already beyond what anyone needs to run games without bottleneck.


For a lower price range he can get the graphic card I posted above which is about as good (comparing both when overclocked) and with more memory, if he was to throw more money on it he would probably end up going multi GPU which usually only causes problems in games and even decreases perfomance.

And still those 2 cards will already run anything on max settings for a few years, by the time he needs a new one it would be with a new directX version.


For "add more RAM later" is the same. on max settings C3 never uses more than 4GB of RAM, for that you would need to use some bad Anti anolising that uses too many resources and play on a monster 60'' TV with giantic resolutions.

Honestly you shouldn′t spend any money on a gaming computer now. If you can run any game with what you have you should stick with it a little longer. If you can′t you should buy a 400$ computer / upgrade parts and save the rest of the money for later.

Why, you may ask? Well, the """next generation""" consoles are right around the corner, after they come out a new line of PC hardware will come out as well. If you just wait just for around a year and half, for the same exact price you′ll be able to get a PC that will be much, much better than anything you′ll be spending money on right now.

Seriously, if I was to go and spend a big budget on a PC at the moment I would deffinetly regret it later.

So i understand that if i cut the ram to 8GB it wont hurt me. But the processor I feel will effect the performance im looking for. Crysis 3 max settings with a fps of 30. have you by chance had experience with that build above to see what the rates would be?

No, but the problem with C3 isn′t that it needs very good hardware to play it. The problem is that you must tweak it for it to work properly for it to work correctly.

This is basically because the game is poorly optimized. It will run at 30FPS as you want, but with the proper adjustments it can easily run at 60-80FPS on max settings.


I, errr, can′t remember now which those adjustments are but people here in the forum the people knows how to tweak it properly. If you send a PM to SDub or WaR_SPiRiT they sure will be able to help you with that.

I just got back from work and my brain seriously hurts, but I concur with what Mjr Strickland said about not wasting money just because you have it. I'll make a couple builds or three for you, and give you a "this is the best way to waste your money if you REALLY want you" build to spend the whole 2000 bucks.

For now, Mjr. Strickland's build is a very cost-effective and powerful one that I made for him just a few days ago.

Wanna use all your money?
1. sli the 770's $400 more and upgrade to an ax1200 I think $50-75 more?
2. switch to a gtx 780 $250 more

You dont need 8 cores for games whoever says you do is an asshole or on crack. You dont really need 16 gb ram but its dirt cheap. I just added 8gb of 2133's. Theyre not fast timings but they are cheap. If you want swap the out for some really fast 1600's. You want a cpu that can oc well and be cooled well cheap. Corsair is a proven product. You want as much gpu horsepower as your money can go. sli 770's will out do a 780 and will cost you more but will keep you below your 2k limit. Fkc amd processors. By the way, fk amd processors.

If you need hdd's theres no good reason not to buy a pair of ssd's and put them in raid 0. Theyre dirt cheap compared to what they used to be. Just buy a pair of 64's or 128gb's and raid 0 them. Why? because outside out a gpu upgrade it is arguably THE BIGGEST noticeable upgrade you can have. Your sh!t will load FAST. Spend all that money who wants to wait. Anyone who says you dont need ssd's are technically right, but then again theyre technically azzholes....

Final note. Anyone who doesnt agree with my assessment is either wrong, an idiot, or most likely both. I'm high on Mountain Dew biches and cannot be reasoned with....but should be taken at least half seriously....or not.....
