Stone-Age technology?

Post » Mon Jul 22, 2013 7:16 am

Would you like to see some of the inhabitants of the Fallout series adapting to a primitive form of technology as well as the scavenger of pre-war parts and those that sage guard pre-war knowledge of science and micro-fusion technology.

I'm not talking everyone but to possibly have pockets of groups or remote villages built out of trees or small towns carved out in the side of cliffs. Tribes of savages also capable of using bows and arrows or wielding hand made axes to also contend with or to trade with.

It would make a difference to game mechanics as it would introduce new skills.
Personally I am not sure if it would work or not

There is a precedent for it [in Fallout 2]; but in the Fallout setting, stone-age is what you find, and what you find might become a spear with a bowie-knife tip and compass on it;

*Or underground buildings made out of school buses; resembling the ancient Vaults.

As Gizmo pointed out there are a number of "tribals" and other primative groups in Fallout 2. Hell the Chosen One was a tribal. We also have the groups in Honest Hearts and the Legion talks about taking over many primative tribes.

Would I like to see more? Sure, but I see no need to have new skills introduced. We have Unarmed for spears and such. Throwing for rocks and that is about it.

Unless we are talking bows and arrows, but I don't want a new archery skill added cause it would most likely mean an already existing skill will be removed because that just seems to be the way games are going, "simpler."

Just add cross bows and have them under guns.

tribals obsessed with pre war tech and machines.. like the Boomers of Vegas?

Also, do spears and throwing knives/ hatchets fall under melee weapons? that may allow for bows to be included in that skillset. i just don't see bows and arrows falling under the guns category. unless they were compound bows with mf cells attached to the heads for explosive reasons..but even then, i feel it's a stretch.

maybe put those thrown weapons (spears, hatchets, knives) and bows under the survival skill?
