Config is denied when installing mods.

After several years of being on the shelf, i decided to reinstall Oblivion today. That of course led to grabbing my favorite mods. Sadly, I keep getting this error:

A problem occurred during install:

Access to the path 'D:Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion\Data\config' is denied.

Access to the path 'D:Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion\Data\config' is denied.

The mod was not installed.

I've never seen this with FO:3, FO:NV, Skyrim, and never before with Oblivion. I tend to use NMM, but some mods are OMOD, so i use OBMM for them, but this error will pop up on on either tool. It doesn't happen to all mods, but just some. Could really use some advice on this.

Is D:Program Files a UAC protected folder?

Oblivion is an older game and is best installed in a non UAC directory. You can try disabling the UAC for the game folder and see what happens.

If it's a protected directory, this would be the better solution: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129

I have UAC turned off. Hate that thing.

Trying to move Steam anyway. Why not?

EDIT: Nope, moving Steam folder did not help. Nor did setting OBMM to run as admin.

OBMM and other mod tools have folders they set up for their purposes (basically storing and extracting the FOMODs before they are installed in the game). Are those folders in a UAC protected directory?

It's good that you moved Steam, it will be better in the long run.

Also, did your config files (the ones it can't write to) get set to Read Only?
