That's rather odd seeing as each character has their own rumor file. Have you played as both characters in the same session (w/o quitting DF)? it may be that the game is not clearing the rumors from it's memory between loads; so if you load one character and then load the other, they may bleed together. Just hypothesizing, but it's possible.
I don't pay much attention to rumors, so I haven't noticed if this happens a lot
I've actually exited back to WinXP between characters. Probably didn't do it EVERY TIME (which may be enough to allow hypothetical bleed, and now that games are saved, maybe I'm stuck with it).
I'm not overly concerned about it, BUT, was initially wondering if it translates to the possibility that other things may have also bled, but the ambiguous "other things," are in my subconscious and probably more recent developments in Bethesda algorithms, so not to be worried about (such as enemy levelling & the like). I think I need to review my gameplay strategy, 'cause I'm getting my @ss handed to me in each character it would seem. I do a few errand quests, then get a quest that takes me to a dungeon, and I'm not ready for it yet. For instance, the second character came to a dungeon (where someone I need to help me with a riddle secluded himself to study archane sciences, etc), and it's full of giant scorpions, which paralyze me in one sting, then take their sweet time knocking my life down to nil before I become un-paralyzed. *GAH!*
Strategically, I'm probably just not very good at RPGing.. I must say, though, that as much a fan of glossy graphics as I am, and I've been enjoying Fallout immensely since release (as I did Oblivion & Morrowind before), the infectious draw that Daggerfall had on me initially, even WITH the bugs I often couldn't work through, is still there, and my current system running DOSBox seems to be far more stable and capable than my old system w/ Win95 or Win98 ever was for this game.
