Resetting the save #

Post » Thu Jul 25, 2013 9:35 pm

Pretty straight forward here. Is there a way to reset the number that gets added to a save back to 1 without re-installing? In the Fallout 3 world, this was an ini setting, I believe, but I cannot find a Skyrim equivalent. Maybe it's in the windows registry, anyone know how to do this?

You can't reset the save number, but what you can do is archive all your saves (just create a folder in your Saves folder, call it Old and move all your saves in there)

Then, when you start a new character, it will be Save 1 again.

dunno how to help you, although my game has crashed while in the middle of an auto save and reset the count to 0 and putting the old save at 42000 or something ridiculous...obviously not a good thing tho

You can with Wrye Bash. Under the Saves tab, right click a save and select File -- Re-number Saves.

If you don't have or use WB then what CCNA said would likely be the only other way.

You can reset on console too, if you don't mind momentarily having only one save file. Enter the save function and delete all saves including any autosaves. Then back all the way out of the menu (I mean all the way out to the game, not just the save menu). Now go back to the save menu and save. It will now be number 1. I suppose you could have a system freeze while saving, which would svck, but I've only ever had that with autosaves (and have disabled them as a result).

Obviously, you can't do this if you have more than one character, but you can keep your numbering pretty low if you keep only one permanent save per character.
