Of Princes and Power - OOC and Sign-Up Thread #14

Heaven Aetherius or hell Oblivion, LET'S highROCK:

Welcome to the out of character and sign-up thread for OF PRINCES AND POWER, part of the Shattered Empire Series, now enjoying its second chapter. Of Princes and Power is a mostly political RP set in the entirity of early 4th Era High Rock. We are taking the events of Oblivion as our point of departure, and many writers have filled in all sorts of fantastically imaginative lore in deciding what has happened in the last twenty eight years since that day. Players control everything from the Queens, Kings, Princes Dukes and Counts who rule High Rock, to people just trying to find their way in this dangerous time.

Your friendly neighbourhood GMs are me, aSaPp!5@ and Broken-Scale. Pester us, or the thread in general, if you have any questions. Happily, this is about the friendliest, warmest RP I've ever had the pleasure to be in, so don't be afraid to bother us as often as you like.

There is lots and lots of great information on this lovely RP In aSaPp's gloriously long OP in the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1456030-of-princes-and-power-chpt2-the-queens-gambit/, for anyone who wants it. My best advice for anyone new is to read all you can stomach of that big post and ask here for help. Even though this is a new alternative timeline, we haven't gotten very far and there is very little you need to learn in order to start RPing here. In fact, if your character is the sort who doesn't really go in for the big political side of things, you yourself may need to learn almost nothing . Although lots of people have been contributing lots of fantastic new lore, everyone who joins is invited to join in at whatever level they feel comfortable with, and to craft as much new lore-fluff as they like, if they end up with a little corner of High Rock to themselves.

WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE LOVELY RPERS

Almost all of the information on the RP is stored on our quite spiffing http://theshatteredempireseries.wikia.com/wiki/The_Shattered_Empire_Series_Wiki, and everyone who joins is invited to write up their own back-stories and new pieces of lore to fit into the tapestry we are making here. This RP is all about feudalism and tradition; those who care about it and those who don't. Princes and Power, that sort of thing. For anyone who is genuinely new/confused, I promise that everything you need to know about what little plot we've had so far is contained either in that OP, or this silly post I wrote in the last chapter, http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1343716-of-princes-and-power-chapter-i-a-game-of-pawns/page-6#entry22481821.

NOW IS A GREAT TIME TO JOIN AS A NEW PLAYER, as we are moving to a new scene within the Festival of Peace held in Castle Evermore, where the majority of the characters currently find themselves. There are also good places to join elsewhere, in particular I would recommend Wayrest City, if you want to stumble onto a nest of intrigue right away (though there is also stuff growing in The North as well, and a pleasing vacuum of events in Daggerfall and Camlorn - maybe an opportunity to create some yourself?).

For everyone who ISN'T NEW, the current order of the day is http://theshatteredempireseries.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline:_Of_Princes_and_Power (no, not that one). Whether you are in charge of a little county or a Kingdom, if you can help fill in any significant dates there, the timeline could really grow to be a fantastically useful tool. It started as a personal tool I kept on a notepad file for myself, but already it is growing into a universal tool with lots of generic entries turning up. Related, a point to debate: should we have a universal SES instead? It would certainly help for some things, although different RPs are yet to really interact, but would it become too unwieldy? Discuss.

Within the RP proper, everyone in the party move to the gardens and get drunk. Or more, be drunk, as we are now moving to sometime way past bedtime, that stage of the party (you know, the bit where all the drama happens). The Pleasure Gardens of Castle Evermore are briefly described twice in my last mega-post, at the end of the two sections. Think http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4e/Villa_Ephrussi_de_Rothschild_Temple_of_Love.jpg. Also mazes. She so has mazes.

How about, Elias can play both pipe organ and harpsichord (they're not that different, really)? I want him to specialize with the organ, but I don't want to invoke the wrath of Vincent. :hehe:

Really, when I think of High Rock, I think of the Daggerfall Main Theme (which sounds badass on a church organ). I prefer pipe organs, but it sounds like it'd be easier to have a harpsichord in an office thing. :D Elias will play a pipe organ when he can, because ge likes the mournful sounds he can make on it.

Anyway, I forgot to add in this one thing into the character sheet, but I had this idea of Elias having a pet canary. Is this allowed? Can I say it's quite tame, so he doesn't really keep it in a cage often? I thought that Elias would've gotten a new companion after the death of his mother.

I'm going to have to rewrite my character sheet, aren't I? :P

That timeline is epic. That's the first time I've seen it.

I think I'll work on finishing my Camlorn lore tonight and getting things added to the wiki.

Lexy, we need to have a talk. Um, I don't know how to put this, but... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxo79g72LO8. Chill. Take a whole pack of chill-pills. It's good. You don't need to ask us if you can have a pet canary or not . Nor do you need to ask us what instruments your character plays, unless you suspect one might be against accepted lore. Just, generally...less questions = better. Don't want to be mean but...yeah .

Have some confidence man, you make far, far less mistakes than you think. Just go with it for a bit and wait for US to say you've done something wrong (hint: this probably won't happen).

Sorry. I just didn't want to write a post that mentioned a pet canary and have the GMs be like, "What? When did he have a bird?". :P

I guess I'll figure out where exactly he works at. :P I don't think he would go to the party, so he must be doing something at his workplace. Am I allowed asking what time it is in-RP now, because I'm not too sure how far ahead the time-skip was.

That is a perfectly reasonable question. It's answered in the OP:

we are now moving to sometime way past bedtime, that stage of the party (you know, the bit where all the drama happens).

So, a few hours from were we where before. We've moved from "Evening" to "Late Night"

Oh, I somehow missed this.

I'll think of something. I'm not entirely sure what kind of duties a Baron has, but I'm sure there isn't anything work-related that Elias could be doing. Perhaps we'll hear this harpsichord already. :)

Basically, a Baron is totally in charge of his Barony. What the Baron actually does himself completely depends on the guy in question. He may have a court full of people that deal with all of his responsibilities for him, he may not. These sort of responsibilities would include any legal ruling within the Barony, provisions as to agriculture, trade, the operation of guilds, etc. Some rulers would involve themselves in everything, others would just have parties all the time and get someone else to do it *COUGH*Syllawen*COUGH*.

Ah, I see. I kind of think that Elias would leave everything to his court, as he is inexperienced and unconfident with his ability to do so. Also, I'm not too sure how sympathetic the court would be toward him, but I'd imagine they don't want to intrust him with too much important stuff, as they don't want things mucked up. :P

Okay, then. I'll open with him at home. :)
