Did anyone else think that?

The Dragonborn would become Skyrim's new High King/Queen? Or maybe temporary High King/Queen until Skyrim got back together?

I know a lot people don't like the idea of a Dragonborn High King/Queen. But when the Greybeards officially welcome you as Dragonborn, they say:

I understood it as that, Elisif/Tullius and Ulfric were unworthy of the title of High King/Queen? And the Dragonborn being proclaimed Ysmir, was the only one worthy of the crown? Since they were blessed by Kyne and Shor and in the name of Atmora?

They could've become a temporary King like Pelinal. After stabilizing Skyrim, they could just leave their duties and continue adventuring.

Bethesda could easily explain it in future games. By simply calling them the Dragonborn King/Queen, the name does not specify race or gender. They also could say that after some time, the Dragonborn King left their royal duties to wander Tamriel; and was never heard from again. That way everyone is happy; and it leaves the Dragonborn's fate open to interpretation. Sort of like the Eternal Champion and the Daggerfall hero.

So in closing was I the only one who misinterpreted what Argenir said?

I thought the Civil War quest line should have always ended up with you being High King/Queen or at least taking over one of the holds from the disposed jarls with the potential down the road to become High King/ Queen. Maybe additional quests to obtain it. Would have been awesome to have a palace as your home! :)

Not everyone roleplays the Dragonborn so them taking up the role of a ruler may not suit them.

Its a good way to think of it if you are one of the people who play the Dragonborn. Even a temporary position would be good if you didn't wish to stay in politics and just wanted to continue adventuring. as for future games its a vague enough wording to work.

I'm one of those people, I've only done the mq twice. I just recently started a DB character and noticed what Argenir said: What did he mean by: Long has the Storm Crown languished with no worthy brow to sit upon. By our breath we bestow it now to you in the name of Kyne, in the name of Shor, and in the name of Atmora of old.

What does he mean by: Long has the Storm Crown languished with no worthy brow to sit upon? Isn't the crown of the High King/Queen known as the Storm Crown? Also when he says: By our breath we bestow it upon you in the name of Kyne, in the name of Shor, and in the name of Atmora of old. What exactly are they bestowing upon me? The Storm Crown? The right for me to rule as Ysmir? To me it sounds like I have the blessings of everything the Nords value and hold dear, in order to rule.

Ysmir (Dragon of the North) and Stormcrown are titles given to a Dragonborn, and while the last known person to hold those went on to become Emperor of Tamriel and a god (though some certainly dispute this), the Greybeards generally avoid getting involved in the politics of the realm. While it was Tiber/Hjafi's destiny to become a ruler, it may not be that of the last Dragonborn.

I don't think there is such an object as the actual Storm Crown. There's the Jagged Crown, but even posession of that is more symbolic than anything else.

Being dragonborn or dovakhim has nothing to do with being the high king of Skyrim, the dragonborns primary task is the temporary defeat of Alduin and saving Nirn. As such he could by your argument equally well claim to be high king of all the other parts of Nirn and emporor as well.

He just happens to be in Skyrim for this period and i also think that the way the dragonborn ends all the quests after all the dlc there would be many a person opposed and might even cause another revolt or invasion from the rest of the world.

Its just irrelevant, it has happened in the past but not because the person was dragonborn.

Incidentally Tullius would not become high king whatever happened he is just an imperial soldier so has no interest in it, the only party in the CW that craves it is Ulfric, hence the CW.

Ok?

But only the Dragonborn can complete the MQ/Dragonborn DLC/ and even Dawnguard. Your characters that are not Dragonborn are pure head-canon. They are the untold legends.

Anyway, It would have been a nice addition. But the after-taste in the name of canon would be... very touchy. It's way too "famous" for mysteriousness. So it's better for the LDB to just vanish/ascend all together. With everyone else none the wiser. This of course, is where Hermaues Mora and the Miraak resolution comes in nicely... Very much like CoC and Sheogorath.

I've always assumed that "Stormcrown" referred to Talos having learned the Storm call shout.

These games are based off of the novels. Dragonborn never took a throne in any novel.

They could still make it an option though of course to some people OPTIONS mean CANON, which they don't have to be. Oh well, it could have been fun. I'd like to see a game where the player could be ruler, it would fit well with the powerful champion theme. Of course the hue and cry from many would ruin that for everyone. My Dragonborn would have been a perfect fit and truth be told my headcanon will be that. I plan on marching into the Blue Palace with my Nord DoVahKiin and donning the Jagged Crown then issuing a challenge. I don't expect anyone with any sense to step forward. After that it will be more adventures in store.

Edit: Now that i think of it he may just massacre everyone in the palace who is a thane or guard and leave Elisef and the servants alone alive. I'm going to give that possibility due consideration. It would be fun if only to save, do it then revert save just to say I have accomplished it.

The dragonborn could be the king/queen until the true king/queen is decided.

The only way it could work is if it just says "the dragonborn became ruler of skyrim for *some time* until the true *high king/queen* was chosen by the moot.
they would have to avoid race, gender and name.

I dont want this to be what happens but thats the only way it could work.
