Any advice on buying the DLC's?

Post » Sun Jul 28, 2013 10:39 am

So I decided to finally go ahead and get the DLC's -- KotN, Shivering Isles, and hopefully all the lesser ones included in there somewheres. On hard disc preferably, not just downloaded.

I'm on the PC

Been playing vanilla Oblivion for over 5 years now (on and off of course) have put in probably 1000's of hours over the years. Time for new content.

SO TODAY I started looking online. gamesas store for this - unavailable. (closed?)

I did find a page for it but it had only links to xboxonline or something. Again, I'm on PC. Nothing there for me it seems.

Looked on Amazon, but so far can't find anyone selling the package I want. Individually I could buy them, like the Knights of the Nine jewel case (including most of the lesser DLC's but not all) and then buy Shivering Isles for another price from another seller, BUT... some of the prices are way out of whack, to me at least. Are people really still paying $65 for Shivering Isles?

I see used copies for sale on various sites, but who to trust?

Oh, and the "helpful" pinned thread atop the forum is no help whatsoever. Store is closed, for lookes like 2 years now, and the suggested "direct 2 drive" site redirects to gamefly, and Knights of the Nine is no longer for sale, Shivering Isles doesn't seem to even exist there. No results come up for it.

Where or how did you get yours? And maybe more importantly... why is it so hard to find a good easy reasonably priced way to get them?

I got mine from Steam - the GOTY Edition Deluxe. It includes KotN, SI and all of the smaller DLCs. Currently costs $24.99.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention Steam. Along my hours of online travelling today I read somewhere that STEAM DLC's are not compatible with my original hard disc dvd version (the one I bought like 8 years ago or so)

I really don't want to go the STEAM route. I'd prefer to own the discs if possible. I don't mind paying a bit extra for them.

Edit: Is there no way to purchase that GOTY Deluxe on disc? It means I basically bought the original game twice mind you, but what can you do?

Only disc version I see at stores now a days is the GOTY version. You may be lucky on finding a KotN case somewhere (It has KotN and the other DLC except SI). You may have to go the Steam route, unfortunately.

Shivering Isles I have seen in stores but obviously that only contains the expansion itself. DLC for Oblivion is a treasure hunt these days!

Have you tried going to local retailers and seeing if they have it there? There's a GAME shop near me and they still sell it.

EDIT: Silly me, you're looking for just the DLC's. It's sold online on GAME but I'm not sure whether or not they deliver to other countries. (I could be wrong)

Other than that, you might just have to buy the GOTY/5th anneversary edition. Again, I could be wrong.

Treasure hunt, yes, I'm starting to find that out. :(

I've been looking at Bestbuy online, but they don't seem to have it in-store OR online. I'll keep trying other store sites.

I see copies of them on Amazon.com (.ca has some copies too but they are way overpriced). On .com I'm seeing sellers from Japan, South Carolina, etc. I might have to just svck it up and place an order and hope I get what I'm hoping for. I've never bought a used copy of any game before, and would prefer to not start now.

On a side note, why is it too much to ask that a game company provide us a nice easy page to log into where we can order or download extra content, no fuss, no hassles, no confusion, no frustration, and no 17 hours of clicking around the web and running to stores burning up gas looking for it?

Why?

Any comment from oh, say, someone from Bethesda would be great. Probably too much to hope for, but great.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine)
http://www.amazon.ca/The-Elder-Scrolls-IV-Shivering/dp/B000V9C9FO/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

Would that include all the lesser dlcs? (excluding that one particular one)

?

I can't tell from the user reviews if it does or not.

I never understood why, either. You would think after the old store http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1089673-oblivion-dlc-available-online/?p=18989508 and over time, Bethesda would provide the PC version of the DLC to buy again via the official website. All of Morrowind's addons are free and available, and all the Oblivion DLC on the official website is available but for the 360 only.

GOTY is only Oblivion+ SI and KotN, none of the other small DLC. Look for the http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/67/ESIV_Expansion.jpg/256px-ESIV_Expansion.jpg, it has KotN and all the DLC. http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110507231943/elderscrolls/images/9/9c/The_Shivering_Isles.jpg is by itself so you will have to pay a little more extra to get SI as well.
