To all new roleplayers...

Post » Fri Apr 16, 2010 1:15 pm

Don't start your own RP until you've had some experience.

Go slow on RP's, if it goes from page 2 to page 8 in a weekend, you're going way too fast.

Give some backstory!!!!! Can't stress that enough!

Don't make an UBER character!

Don't be a blindingly, beautiful, female who is the world's greatest assassin, or a super, tough, guy who can pick up Deathclaws and throw them.

Anyone else who has advice, please post it here.

Made this because...?

We all know all this and we can't really change it; a bad RP'er is someone who doesn't put their heart into RP'ing. From what I see, all the people who are bad with their posts are putting more heart into it then anyone. They stay to their own grounds and have fun when they post; that's all we can ask.

I'm still pretty new, but something I hate;

No one liners!
Short posts should only be acceptable if it's direct dialog to another person, and even then one should make it at least an extra paragraph long. Try explaining the surroundings, or have your character do something while talking, anything to make it a longer post.

Actually, yeah, I want to see some more detail to THIS.

Not naming names but sometimes when I read posts there is absolutely no flow for example:

I went over and shot this guy then I went over and stomped this guys face in then I went and hopped on the plane then I jumped out of the plane then I pulled out the parachute then I saw this guy that was trying to cut my parachute then I shot the guy--

Boring isn't it? I'm seeing a lot of stuff like this with no periods (.) commas (,) or semi-colons (; ). It's kind of sad. :(

Agree with the comedian on the One liners.

I know I'm new to RPing but the one thing I would suggest is that every one read http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=893712. You can't go wrong with some advice and that really gives a lot of it.

Ah, this thread is making me nostalgic for my forum-RPing days... ;3;
Good times. Good times.

Don't to Fallout: The Elder Scrolls or The Elder Scrolls: Fallout; They usually fail, and are extremely difficult to pull off.

I don't know who its directed at, only ever seen one, and I don't remember who did it. Its just general information, not pointing any fingers, because no one is a bad roleplayer, just a great one who isn't great yet :D

Hmm, I wonder where you got the idea to make this thread?

And Lachon, no, you don't know. You don't know everything on the forum, and you aren't the coolest guy ever. I believe I'm the first person to ever stand up to you.

Thank GOD, someone had to say it at least once. I applaud to you for being able to do that; I'm tired of being classed as all that. It's complete and utter crap, I'm a teenage kid y'know, I'm not the best damn writer and this Forum and I don't know everything. I only know what I know and I tell what I tell through my experiences.

Wanna keep this conversation going, send me a PM; I'd like a nice chat with someone who actually did that.

Edit1: Nobody say anything to any Mods about what anunknownrandomghoul said as it isn't anything bad and NO-ONE send him a PM about it. I don't even know why I'm saying this... I don't want anyone to stand up for me I guess, cause he's right.

I actually created a thread for just this, but it is buried now. I think the best thing to do is just give critique as the threads come.

There's already a topic for these kinds of things; It's called 'So, you think you can RP?"

I was going to say.... I believe a Rp'er by the name of KvatchGaurdian or someone created a very sucessful TES: Fallout RP.

Here she is. Eight threads..... Very sucessful actually.

No, I created one solely addressing the state of the forums. 'So you think you can RP?" should be mandatory to read before you can post here.

Although I know where you're going with that statement, I still found it quite amusing.

Edit: This forum is like the state of Texas. Do whatever the hell you want.

Please use this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=893712&st=40&start=40

Also, please bear in mind that we have a wide range of users on this forum with a wide range of ages, languages, and literary abilities. As long as everyone is following the forum rules, all are welcome here. My function as a moderator is to make sure that they feel that way. That means not fostering an "elitist" atmosphere on these forums or letting newer members be bullied out by other people telling them they're not good enough. How rude! If you don't like an RP, don't play in it. If you don't like someone's short story, post only if you think they can genuinely do better with polite and constructive feedback. Good fan-art (writing, mods, pictures) develops when those who are good at it encourage and inspire those around them - it does not happen because somebody yells at them and tells them they svck. Don't do it - because ultimately the person who ends up looking bad is you.
