The World is Saved... What now?

Post » Sun Jul 28, 2013 10:00 pm

I am finally finished with the main quest of Skyrim (late bloomer, I know), and, unlike in Oblivion, where we got full closure, this time I felt that the story of Dragonborn isn't actually over. (What I mean is not in the way of Dragonborn and Dawnguard expansions, but rather as the main story) Yeah, we defeated Alduin, and yeah, the destiny of Dragonborn is fulfilled, but there still is much to do.

I mean, the Thalmor are still around, the rebellion is neither here nor there for the time being and it seems there is still a whole lot more that Dragonborn can do, and, in that logic, would do should his/her story progress any further.

Beyond that, what's stopping the Dragonborn from just going to the Imperial City and taking the Amulet of Kings for himself, sort of, pull a Talos move, if you will. (Well, legions, but when has that ever stopped him :P)

I don't mean that I am dissatisfied with the ending, in fact, I am quite pleased. It's just that, I feel that Bethesda is reserving the Dragonborn for further stuff. (Even Arngeir says that the tale of Dragonborn is just starting in the end)

What do you guys think? Will the story of Dragonborn progress to, what I believe is its natural conclusions, or will Bethesda fade him away after the events of Skyrim?

Most will say it is over and it is time for the DoVahKiin to fade into obscurity. That will no doubt happen but it's a shame, there could have been so much more. So much is left undone, so many unraveled threads.

See, this is what happens when you have two main questlines, but only one is officially main. The Dragonborn's task was to stop Alduin, not to win civil wars, rule empires and defeat elves. But the Civil War was so prominent, so tied into Skyrim's story that people feel it's just as important as the MQ - and they're uncomfortable with the thought that it hasn't been concluded yet.

Dragonborn heredity is irrelevant due to the sealing of the Dragon fires.

Thalmor will be addressed in the next game as the main plot most likely. In the mean-time, LDB is going to ascend thanks to Miraak and Mora.

But beyond that, you see, in the end of Oblivion, for the immediate future, everything was fine. Mehrunes was kicked in the ass, Empire was living the calm before the storm, and for time being, everything was calm and peaceful in Morrowind. (Good enough for a regular shmuck like the Hero of Kvatch --- who became a God...)

However, in the end of Skyrim, it seems like the Dragonborn still has a lot do. I mean, killing Alduin didnt solve all of Nirn's problems

Oh no! We didn't end all wars, eradicate hunger and unite every nation in peaceful harmony! What a shame.

I get what you mean, but I also think it's impossible to fit everything into one game - we're in Skyrim, the Thalmor are in Alinor. It's not like the Nerevarine prophecy exclusive to Morrowind. Or like the Oblivion Crisis that affected the whole continent, but its roots and the means to end it were in Cyrodiil. Now we have a problem that can't be easily solved by one person in one province. So it happens between games (which probably won't satisfy people who wanted to kick the Thalmor asses themselves) or we get one step closer to the Thalmor in the next game.

If it's the next game, then of course no Dragonborn. If it's between games, then the Dragonborn could be involved - but I'm not sure if it can be done in a way that will satisfy everyone.

I don't mean to complain. I am just stating that the fact that Bethesda didn't provide any major closure like they did mostly in previous Elder Scrolls games suggests to me that they they planning something big that may or may not involve the Dragonborn (after all, like a said, he is not some regular adventurer, his likes conquered continents). So, I wouldn't expect centuries of jump on their next sequel

What now? Become minor noble, buy land, build house, find wife, start a family, settle down, forget the rest of the world's problems, get bored, join Dark Brotherhood, find entertaining ways to murder people in cold blood, steal the food off of their still warm corpses and take it home as gifts for your children. Ah, the joys of open world gaming.

The Thalmor, the Civil War, Skyrim politic, and everything else is not the Dragonborn concern, the Dragonborn only hunt and kill dragons, absorb dragon soul, destroy all dragons before they destroy the world....that what Dragonborns do.

Afterward?

Nothing, because that is what it mean to be a Dragonborn

It is a curse

Skyrim is about roleplaying, so anyone can make up their own stories. In my game after the MQ and the CW (+everything else) was done, my Dragonborn decided to retire, has 2 children and a nice wife in her Lakeview Manor, while occasionally goes on a nice trip to other cities for trading and to enjoy the countryside. Also she likes to indulge herself in the occasional killing spree (bandits, vamps, rogue conjurers, monsters etc but never regular NPCs).

True, the only way he could really save the Nirn of all problems was to let Alduin End Everything im pretty sure that would be the last problem for Nirn
