New Character Setup?

Post » Thu Aug 01, 2013 4:01 am

So of the few characters I have played so far none have really touched Melee or Explosives. So I figured I would try a character that uses both primarily.

End game I am picturing the PC as follows: A woman with red hair, wearing Authority Glasses, Merc Charmer Armor and carrying a fully upgraded Katana and Rocket Launcher.

SPECIAL as follows with a + on the ones I will add implants to:

STR – 7 + (8)

PER – 5 + (6)

END – 6 + (7)

CHR – 4

INT – 6 + (7)

AGL – 7 + (8)

LCK – 5 + (6)

Some questions:

Is this in any way doable?

Which implants should I add first?

Do I need some kind of gun?

I know low armor will hurt but my weapons and grenades/mines are going to weigh a lot. Will Light Armor and some perks be enough?

Other suggestions/ideas?

Thanks.

Yeah. Sounds like a nice, well-rounded setup. It won't be prominent in any specific area, though.

Light Armor is fine, but if you're going to use it, make an effort to grab travel light and perhaps light touch.

I can't help you on what implants to get. I don't normally roll with explosives builds because they aren't very practical.

I'd definitely plan on getting the melee/unarmed perks- piercing strike, slayer, stonewall, super slam, unstoppable force for when explosives aren't really an option

and then explosive perks- demolition expert(3), hit the deck, splash damage

maybe toughness(2) for DT to help against close explosions and closing the distance to targets in melee combat

and like Gingy said, Light Touch and Travel Light are great for light armor/clothing.

Yeah I am trying to imagine going into a cave full of Deathclaws and coming back out in one piece. Explosives are great in caves as you can toss them around corners and such, but sooner or later I'll be standing toe to toe with a Deathclaw, wearing light armor and swinging a Katana. I just don't see a good outcome there.

Get my Med/Sci high enough and I can make auto-stim-packs that might help me survive one or two hits.

What is VATS in melee like anyway? I think the Katana is supposed to give extra damage to limbs, so can you target limbs when in VATS in melee?

I don't think VATS is a very big deal for Melee Weapons. You cannot target specific body parts in melee range VATS as far as I remember unless there's a perk that lets you select different portions of the body.

I think VATS double melee damage though. So it's not totally useless.
