Is there any way for me to mark caves and mines and such on my world map as having been there and cleared them? I read the little manual that came with the game but I don't see anyway to mark the map. It would make it so much easier for me to plan my journeys and save me a lot of time, not to mention allowing me to make other characters. As it is now I cannot keep track of where my one character has gone let alone multiple characters. Thanks so much for any help. This is the only thing I don't like about this game...it is awesome!

The mod "Map Marker Overhaul" allows you to do this, and optionally a lot more. iirc, it allows you to change between a number of icons, and rename map markers freely.

I don't think you can in the vanilla game. There's probably mods for it though.

You can place one marker. That's all. I hate that there's only one for vanilla.

I switch between several characters at a time.

I keep a little notebook near the computer, and keep notes on the various characters, jotting down not only which places have been visited, but notes about what the character plans to come back and do later. Each character has his/her own page (or more). There's probably a mod that accomplishes the same thing, but I've been doing it this way for several years, and it works for me.

If you're playing on the PC, then Map Marker Overhaul is a must have mod. It broadens the options for map markers so much, I just can't see playing the game without it anymore. In fact, look for anything done by TheNiceOne, all of his mods are really good.
