Aedra 101

Post » Thu Aug 01, 2013 11:28 pm

Hello everyone. I've been playing The Elder Scrolls series since 2003, when Morrowind was released. But I find my lore to be limited when it comes to the Aedra. So here are a few questions I have on them:

1) As far as I've always known, the Aedra sacrificed themselves to create Nirn. Now I've also heard because of this, they are considered dead gods. Now my question is: Are the Aedra dead? Or did they just sacrifice a portion of their power, leaving them weakened?

2) If the Aedra are dead. How is it their are still able to manifest avatars of themselves on Nirn? For example: Akatosh vs Mehrunes Dagon. Also I remember during the Imperial Cult questline in Morrowind, you met a few Aedric avatars. Can't remember there names though.

3) Aspects? What are they? Are they parts of a god themselves? Or something else?

4) Lorkhan is he dead dead? Or just in a weakened state?

5) Also what is the difference between, Lorkhan, Shor, Sheor, Shezarr, and The Greedy Man? I always thought they were the same thing? Just different names for Lorkhan.

Well that's all my questions for now. If I remember anymore I'll post them.

Aedra are not dead. If you remember what Vivec said about being awake and asleep at the same time, the Aedra I believe are asleep all the time. Almost all the time at least.

Aspects as I see it are then the gods when they are awake.
But they must be parts of the gods, like Alduin who isn't like Akatosh at all.
In Alduin, there are some parts of Akatoshes personality, namely the bad sides of him.

Somehow he lives. As a shadow, as a heart? Is he conscious at all? I don't have any idea.

They are different names or different aspects of him. I don't know so much about him.

I'm not even sure should I call him aedroth or daedroth.
