DOSBox Mouse Won't Capture In Daggerfall

Post » Sat Apr 17, 2010 12:10 am

Alright. Everybody knows how the DOSBox prompt has that black cursor and when you run a game, clicking the window will "capture" the mouse - the cursor will go away and you will have control of the mouse ingame.

This applies for all games except Daggerfall, where clicking does NOT capture the mouse. Though I figured it out - I can click to skip the "Bethesda Softworks" screen and can even click the menu. However, there apparently is basically a second cursor, the "in-game" cursor (the one you actually see with the blue arrow). I cannot play the game with my mouse cursor not captured, in essence, I have to capture it in order to take control of the Daggerfall cursor.

Clicking does not do that - I have to do Ctrl+F10, which isn't a big deal, but whenever I have to alt-tab or anything it's quite obnoxious.

P.S. Yes, I have "autolock" set to 1 in my config.

CTRL+F10. Its the only way, don't alt tab, play the game. ;) ... Or run at full screen.

There is a more simple solution to your problem.

Go into the dosbox.conf (notepad or something) and change the output line to:

output=overlay

That's it, have fun.

How is that more simple than just holding Ctrl and pressing F10? LMAO

Will output=overlay work without breaking something? You know how Arena only works with certain output modes...how about Daggerfall?

I usually set the output mode to ddraw. Is that a bad idea?

I have encountered no problems running it on D-fend (a dosbox frontend). Well, none that weren't always present when I played it on a dos system, anyway.

The output selection make no difference for me (using Dosbox 0.70 right now) - Still need to hit Ctrl F10 to capture the mouse....

I haven't tried the newer CVS versions - maybe that would work.
