Nord Warrior: Magic or not?

Post » Sat Aug 03, 2013 7:37 am

I have no idea what is wrong with me and playing character, but for some reason I cannot find a good idea.

I want to do a nord warrior but thinking of using supportive magic like the Warhammer online http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/wiki/Chosen, but using a greatsword.

But then there is the idea that Nord warriors should be Anti-Magic.

if people want to help me out with this kind of character, be free to post ideas, especially with RP purposes.

I don't think Nord warriors should be anti-magic as a rule. If Shor supports the use of magic, then who are the Nords to be wary of it?

Shor and Tsun are great and awesome.

Getting some respect for practicing the Clever Craft was a balm to the soul after getting dissed by most of Skyrim.

Tsun: "Well met, mage of Skyrim. The Nords may have forgotten their forefathers' respect for the Clever Craft, but your comrades throng this hall. Here in Shor's house we honor it still."

Quoted for truth.

All Dragonborn and dragons throughout Tamriellic history have sought and gained power, most often without any regard of ethics, morals or societal taboos, the Remans, the Septims from Tiber to Martin, the first AND last Dragonborn, lore and roleplayingwise the will to power in the Dovahkiins blood is justification for learning magic or doing pretty much anything if it involves becoming stronger, gaining power, conquest and domination.

To roleplay the Dragonborn mentality, remember the Dragonborn rule of grabbity.

IE you see power, you grab it.

I don't see every Nord as against magic for sure but the character I'm using on this play through does not use any. Not even Restoration.

The reason: I'm stripping his powers back to the birthright of the Nords which is the Thuum and there are a bunch of shouts to get with a lot of them using spell related effects.

I don't look at using spells though as race breaking because look at all the enchanted stuff in the game, rings, necklaces, armor and weapons etc. For someone to play an anti magic Nord I'd say it would be pretty hypocritical if they used any of these things as well. I'm rp'ing not that he is against magic but basically ignorant of the art and I am staying away from the College of Winterhold for that reason.

So in summary it's completely up to how you want to play your Nord IMO and not a racial issue.

Sure, why not? My axe n' board Nord uses flesh & healing spells, nothing wrong with that. Maybe for RP, you want to bring back the teachings of old? The ancient Nords that everyone speaks so highly of use magic

My current character is a male nord thats a deathknight, which is an evil version of a paladin. I use conjuration and restoration (only for the necromage perk).

The only magic my warriors use is Restoration.

The only Nords who are against magic, are the devolved Goblins that exist today, who claim to be of Atmoran ascent.

The Nords of yore were intellectual warriors, who were eager and willing to learn magic, who valued art, praised Alduin as Chief of gods, and could speak in the Holy Tongue.

The Nord race went extinct with the disappearance of Alduin, our savior.

I play a Nord battlemage, but found 2H unwieldy due to having to switch from weapon to spells. She uses a war axe (1H) with a spell in the off hand.

As for Nords being against magic, that is relatively recent and of course isn't meant to be universal. The redguard are probably more anti-magic but there was a redguard in the Mages Guild in Oblivion. A dragonborn is a mythical being as it is, so you're already an exception. TLDR: Do what you want.

Judging by guard dialogue, the Nords like restoration and have no problem with destruction. I think their problem lies more with conjuration and illusion, which is where the grey moral areas start to come in(not to mention Oblivion Crisis was tied to summoning to say the least).
