Not new but just an opinion

Have just returned to Oblivion after a gap of what 3 years nearly half of it whilst doing Skyrim,

So much i had fogotten and so much i started to enjoy straight away,

The variety of weapons armour enchantments potions, i am overwhelmed and enthralled by the depth of what you have to do,

And health and efforts to maintain it,

I could go on and on.

I am not intending to start a war but this game still has a lot in it for me and i just wish more of it had been brought into Skyrim, i am not intending to knock Skyrim as i have had nearly 2 years enjoyment out of it but seriously how much better could it have been.

The annoying thing for me is all the ideas were already there.

Did they just rip them up and throw them away and start afresh, baffles me. You learn from your mistakes and use what you already know in addition to welding to new ideas. Its almost as if complete strangers took it over.

Every word you have written here has been written about Oblivion itself. They have also been written about Morrowind. They will no doubt be written about TES VI when that game comes out.

As Shelly Mars said in that last "I-just-came-back-from-Skyrim-and-think-this-game-is-better-thread," each game in the series has its good points and its bad points. They have removed features each time they've made a game.

I wish people around here could find some way to praise Oblivion without trashing other games in the process. But I guess that's too much to ask.

I just started playing Oblivion recently after a two year gap. It feels good having over a dozen daedra and undead to summon in any given scenario. A feeling I missed in Skyrim as a proud conjurer.

Ha, you won't catch too much flak around here for being negative about Skyrim, we get the odd refugee from the northern province turning up from time to time. :D

Personally I refuse to buy or play Skyrim because of the things Bethesda removed or changed. I think of it in the same way as Dragon Age 2; it might bear the franchise name, but as far as I'm concerned it isn't part of it. I didn't buy DA2, and I didn't buy Skyrim, and I doubt I'll buy the games that follow them. Their loss.

And in all honesty, the first things I thought when I saw the title of the thread:

1)Oh joy, another thread bashing Oblivion. Pleased to see it isn't, they get so tiresome.

2) Wait, Mew? What's a pokemon doing in TES :bunny:

This is true, but it does not mean those complaining are wrong. With every game in the series, Bethesda removes skills, spells and other features and improves combat mechanics. They also add some new features with each game, but for many gamers, the features added with each new game are not worth what has been lost.

This reminds me of all the posts just like this about Morrowind when Oblivion came out, which then reminds me of the posts like this about Daggerfall when Morrowind came out.

I don't think that I could possibly agree with this statement any more.

While improvements have been all around, and certain features have been introduced, or reintroduced , I still can't get over that what has been lost still outnumbers what we've gained. And what wasn't broken, but in real need of repair, was simply scrapped altogether or considered unnecessary fluff. Well sorry to say, but some of those unnecessary features are what added depth and flavor to the games that we love. Sadly this is what continues to mount in TES, and Skyrim being the latest in the TES series, is the new whipping boy. Really, it's not Skyrim's fault for being as shallow and unimmersive as it is, these are all design decisions made at Beth.

Designing games mainly to sell the most...and while this may make Beth boatloads of cash, it doesn't always translate into the best game(s) they could've made...or the games that they themselves would prefer to make and play themselves. This is what I really want to see from them...make the games that you want to make and play yourselves, because from my point of view, lately all it seem is that it's a matter of just going through the motions.
