Is Oblivion worth a playthrough?

Post » Sun Aug 04, 2013 5:52 pm

I have the game with all the DLC on my Steam account, a result of a sale, but have never actually played it. My initial experience with it, back on the Xbox 360 a few years ago, wasn't too great. Of course, that was before I fell in love with hardcoe gaming (I was a Wii fan and that was it) and RPGs in particular. Still, with Skyrim out now, is Oblivion worth playing through? Is Skyrim not just better in most ways?

I've been playing Oblivion continuously since summer 2007. My current character was created in April 2009 and has almost 2600 of play time on her.

So. . . yeah, I think it's worth a playthrough.

Check http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1457895-is-oblivion-worth-getting/ asking the same question.

You'll see that the answer is a big "Yes"

Also, you already own the game.... Why not play it?

I love how people come to the Oblivion forums and expect us to talk them into playing this game. "Give me the hard sell guys!" Obviously it's a special game because this board's still pretty active for such an old game. Honestly, I couldn't care less if you choose to play it. It's a single player game. It's genius doesn't rely on large amounts of people playing it. It doesn't fall on me to convince you one way or the other. There are tons of reviews out there for this game. Google it and make a decision.

Some people will say that vanilla Oblivion is unplayable, but modded Oblivion is the greatest game in the history of the universe (slight exaggeration...but not by much). Personally, I played it for about a year and a half before I started modding it.

Yes, modded or unmodded Oblivion is a great game, even with it's many flaws. Definitely worth a playthrough or two...hundred. :hehe:

Definitely worth a try. especially now that you've played skyrim. you will adapt to the game quickly. and screw mods, ive played unmodded oblivion a lot and its great.

Not necessarily, there are some fairly major differences between Oblivion and Skyrim. While Skyrim is a continuation of the TES series, in many ways it's a completely different game from the ones that went before it. It's hard to say whether you'll like Oblivion or not, but since you already have the game it won't hurt to give it a try.

If you already have it, why not give it a try and decide for yourself?

Just about anything you don't like about the game can be fixed with mods, but I found the vanilla game quite enjoyable.

Absolutely. I've been playing vanilla since day one (unfortunately), and I'm still going strong. I can only imagine what it's like with mods.
