Installation failure

Post » Sun Aug 04, 2013 11:45 pm

Hey,

I installed Fallout 3 completely. Now I can't play it due to CD key DRM, even though Steam is an authenticating platform.

Release more keys for Fallout 3, or give me a refund. This is such a joke. Community moderators are actually DELETING threads regarding this issue (this is screencapped, btw). You're telling me you have staff on hand to delete threads, but not to generate CD keys? At midnight, no less, when people have gone without a key for over 24 hours.

Address your problems or lose customers. I know you're such a rich company that it just doesn't even matter to you, but please, show some respect.

Enjoy your little ego boost as you delete this topic. I bet it's super-fun being a community moderator for a video game producer's forums. Nice job dude.

The moderators on this forum are not Bethesda employees; they're volunteers from the community. There's nothing they can do about this.

And encouraging piracy (even obliquely) is only going to get this thread deleted as well.

Where do you see piracy mentioned at all? It is completely legal and within everyone's right to download and evaluate a copy of the game they paid for, regardless of source.

I don't care if the community mod can or can't service the issue; I'm not [censored]. The point is, there is a valid problem at hand and discussions regarding it are being actively discarded, while the problem remains entirely disregarded. That is an embarrassing business practice.

I didn't remove your thread because of the issue it addressed. I think it's serious enough to warrant a thread.

However, I think you need to read the rules before you make a thread or post. There are some things you can't post on these forums, which could be reason for disappearing posts or accounts being closed.

Having paid for a product and then not receiving it is bad business. Downloading a game to evaluate 'regardless of source' is equally bad practice if that source isn't the official channel, even though one might feel they are entitled to it since they have already paid for it.

Having said that, I'll leave this thread here. I'm not entirely familiar with the Steam platform, but could the DRM and key issue be Steam related? If so, you might also want to check their support forums.

There is no such CD key for Fallout 3 on the boxed versions. And the boxed version with copy-protected CD1 is all that was ever and still is sold legally, unless proven otherwise. Moreover, Fallout 3 has nothing to do with Valve's Steam platform. Like many other games you can implement your Fallout 3 version later to run the game online happily ever after with Steam though. That's all.

Valve had a sale over the weekend with Fallout 3 being only $5 or so, and somehow or other, an insufficient number of digital download keys needed for activation of the game through Steam were provided to meet the demand. As a result, a number of people who bought the game off Steam were able to download it, but cannot activate it and play it.

Either Valve or Bethesda (or both) seriously screwed up.

basically since bathesda is the publisher and steam is the platform, steam still needs separate auth. keys in order to have permissions to run fallout through their platform. Now the case is simply that steam underestimated sales. They sold more than they thought which was a careless mistake. It is my understanding that the only thing preventing people from playing now is the drm key which bathesda would have to allocate more in the direction to steam. Question is just when will bathesda be able to do this? The community simply needs to raise this issue in a manner that wont lead to moderation or censorship in order for it to actually be considered a fixable issue on bathesda's part. Whether or not they can fix it now is not that big of an issue; what is, however, is that they notice the situation as soon as possible.
