So im planning on three new characters. The thing is I have three race choices for these characters and since I have a hard time deciding I thought why not have some fun and let the community here decide and discuss what would be your preferred choice and favorite. I know that quite a few people think that race doesnt matter in the end but for the sake of this topic lets forget about that.

So the first character will be a College mage who will eventually become Arch-Mage. I will be mostly a good fellow and help people where I can. I want to focus on Destruction and the conjuration of Daedra the most because I want the feeling of being a really powerful mage who can burn whole groups of bad guys to cinder if the situation asks for it.

The second one will be a necromancer who will be mostly bad and selfish. I will only do things for my own gain since the world is a rough place and everyone should look out for themselves first. The focus will of course be conjuration and the raising of dead and the summoning of Skeletons and Ghosts to fight for me. I will also invest a bit in frost magic from the Destruction school and Alteration for the Drain attribute spells.

The third one will be a vampire nightblade who is also mostly evil and selfish. She will focus on surviving first and then join the Volkihar later. Main skills will be One-handed, Sneak, Light Armor, Illusion, Alteration and Destruction.

The race choices for these are female Breton, Altmer and Dunmer.

Im mod user which is important regarding the vampire because sunlight is deadly, the bloodsystem is reversed which means im most powerful at stage 1 and im hated at stage 4 and i can drink blood from slain enemies.

Each race also has a few unique traits which I just copy from the Requiem readme

Bretons: 20% magic resistance, Dragonskin only lasts 8 seconds but has a 100% absorb chance, 10% increased power attack cost, Skill Rates +10%: Conjuration, Skill Rates +5%: All other magical ones, Alchemy

High Elves: 50% weakness to magic, 10% increased power attack cost, 5% cheaper spell cost, 10% more range with spells, 5% longer duration and higher power, faster passive magicka regeneration, Highborn now lasts only 30 seconds, but makes their magicka practically inexhaustable, Skill Rates +10%: All magical ones

Dark Elves: 65% fire resistance, Ancestor Guardian grants 95% damage resistance for 30 seconds, Skill Rates +10%: Destruction, Onehanded, Skill Rates +3%: Everything else

I found all of what you suggested for them to just come natural for that race. An Altmer making some of the most powerful mages being the Arch-mage. Bretons with a bonus in Conjuration being a Necromancer. Dunmers in general I find to be excellent at anything would make for a good Nightblade. And I find them fitting for a vampire.

There are some very powerful Imperial Mages, sick and twisted Necromancers and Hellspawned Vampires.

Race has absolutely no bearing on the effectiveness of a character. Well, if one wants to really get technical, only the Altmer and Bretons will squeak by with the passive bonuses. Even then, they aren't enough to sway the argument enough to outright say that they are any more viable than any other race.

Im also not playing the vanilla game. Choosing a race has a bit more meaning now.

You are right and I noticed that too but there is still lore things like Dunmer having more connection to Daedra worship and necromancy because of their culture and Altmer being the complete opposite in that regard.

I'm just relaying why I opted to choose "other". I too play with a slew of mods that drastically alter the game , races and mechanics. However, that doesn't change my choice of race for any playthrough. It still comes down to what one really wants, as far as I'm concerned.

College - Altmer or Breton

This makes sense to me and my gut.

I didn't look at the photos but I went with Breton, Breton and Dunmer.

Go Bosmer, Nord, or Redguard on all of them.

Altmer, Breton, and Dunmer mages/nightblades/necromancers/whatever are boring and overdone as all hell.

I'd go with Breton-Altmer-Dunmer based on resistances. Going with preference alone, I'd choose Dunmer-Altmer-Breton.

If it weren't for the fact that all three are pretty different I'd choose Breton exclusively. Though I guess you can play her in all three as a sort of alternate timeline.

Your Dunmer looks like such a cutie pie that I don't think the vampire role really suits her.

However, your Altmer would fit in nicely with that expression of hers.

As for college mage, your Breton girl's appearance gives me that vibe of a dedicated student. That leaves the Dark Elf with necromancer.

Well there are just designs that I came up with. While I think that the Breton and Altmer design is good enough the Dunmer looks a bit too cute for being a foul necromancer or vampire. I have to rework a bit if starting the playthrough.

Looking at the poll Im seriously thinking: Where do all those Breton votes come from? Altmer was leading College last time I checked

I am on my first "pure mage" build, she is a Nord. Yes a Nord.

Resisting 50% of frost is such a big deal when dealing with mages and dragons.

Sure, no super fast magicka regen when you need it, but that is where alchemy kicks in and just does not matter.
