Game Freezes When Character Enters Water

Post » Wed Aug 07, 2013 3:09 pm

Hi folks! I have had Skyrim on the shelf for over a year, but just started playing again (PS3, level 36). When I put in the disc last weekend, I updated to the latest patch per the console prompt and away I went back into Skyrim. I forgot how much I enjoyed this game!

Anyway, I am experiencing a weird bug any time my character submerges into water above his head. The game freezes and requires me to eject the disc to restart the console and pay again. This happens in bodies of water both indoors and outdoors. Is this a known issue? Is there a work around? I would appreciate any help or advice. I tried the search function but didn't get anything after a couple tries. Thanks!

It's a bug with a patch. To remove it, first delete the patch information then redownload the patches to fix it. Worked for me.

Thanks. Can what you describe be done on PS3? I had not played for over a year and just updated to the latest version when I put the disc back in.

Thanks, I will give that a try. Will my save files be OK or should I back them up before doing this?

DO NOT DELETE SAVE DATA. ONLY THE GAME.

FORGET EVERYTHING I SAID!!!

Go to game, then "Game Data Utility", then delete Skyrim and Skyrim Update. Put Skyrim back in and let it update.

Here's a video just in case (two minutes long):

this happened with patch 1.5. and I experienced it with my PS3.

As described go and delete your GAME DATA only and then re-install the game and allow it to update to the latest patch. Problem solved.
